Rolodex PCLink (650-0132) Troubleshooting Faxback Doc. # 17118 TROUBLE WITH DOWNLOADING If you are having problems downloading, and have followed the instructions exactly as shown, it may help if you place the infrared Interface about 1 inch away from the Electronic ROLODEX File. The tendency is to place them as close together as possible, but it generally works better if they are a short distance apart. When downloading to the Electronic ROLODEX File 48K, it may be necessary to raise the Infrared Adapter approximately 1/4 inch so that good alignment is made between the 48K and the adapter. This can be accomplished by placing the Infrared Adapter on a magazine or something of similar thickness. Common causes for download failure are: Infrared Adapter placed on wrong side. Make sure it is to the right of the Electronic ROLODEX File. Selecting wrong Electronic ROLODEX File from DOWNLOAD menu. Low batteries in the Electronic ROLODEX File. Infrared Adapter connected to the wrong parallel printer port. Connecting Infrared Adapter to serial port using an "NULL MODEM', or some other kind of adapter, or attaching the cable to a connector on the printer. The cable must be connected to a parallel printer port on the PC case. The connector on the PC must be a 25 pin female connector. Waiting too long to hit on the PC keyboard after placing the Electronic ROLODEX File in the receive mode, you must complete that step within 45 seconds. PC hardware not compatible with Infrared Adapter cable. Limitations on downloading data Which data gets transferred, and where it is placed on the screen depend on which type of Electronic ROLODEX File the data is sent to: Electronic ROLODEX FILE 48K: The first 16 characters of line 1 and line 2 are stored in the NAME and COMPANY fields of the 48K. The complete TEL# is placed in NO 1, the complete FAX# is placed in NO 2, the NO 3 telephone number is left blank. The first 128 characters of the address and miscellaneous lines are placed in the ADDR/MISC field. Carriage returns are replaced with 2 consecutive characters. This will enable the program to restore the carriage returns when the data is subsequently uploaded back on to the PC. Electronic ROLODEX FILE 64K: All lines are saved on the 64K, except only 12 digits of the TEL#, and 11 digits of the FAX#. If necessary, the program will remove O's, and -, and any non-numeric characters to make the number fit in the space provided. If it still does not fit, the numbers will be truncated to the leading 12 TEL# and 11 FAX# digits. Electronic ROLODEX FILE 128k: All lines are saved on the 128K exactly as shown on the PC. TROUBLE WITH UPLOADING If you have followed the Upload instructions exactly as described, without success, make sure that the alignment of the Infrared adapter is correct.
