To turn it off, press OFF. NOTES: Your calculator automatically turns off about 7 minutes after you make the last entry. Your calculator loses any pending calculations when you turn it off, or when it automatically turns off. CORRECTING ENTRY ERRORS The calculator performs the function of the last function key pressed. For example, if you press 7 x / + 5 =, the calculator performs 7 + 5 = and 12 appears on the display. To clear numeric entry errors, press CE/C once to clear the last entry. Press CE/C twice or ON/AC once to clear the entire problem. MULTI-LINE MODE In the multi-line mode, the calculator displays the calculation step by step. When you turn on the calculator, the EC-2033 is automatically in the multi-line mode and displays 0. NOTES: To go from single-line to multi-line mode, press SINGLE/MULTI-LINE. You cannot use the decimal point in the multi-line mode. The EC-2033 displays E (Error) if you make an invalid entry. Press CE/C to remove the E from the display. When you do multiplication and division calculations, the equation's first number cannot exceed 5 digits and the second cannot exceed 3 digits. Example: Calculation You Press You See 99999 x 999 = 99999 x 99999 9989001 999 = x 999 _ _ _ _ 899991 899991 899991 - - - - - 99899001 When you do addition calculations, if the equation has more than 5 values, the EC-2033 displays and calculates the result of the first five values. From then on, it keeps a running total and shows only the previous total, the number you're adding, and the overall total. Example: Calculation You Press You See 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 1 + 1 5 + 6 = 21 2 + 2 3 + 3 4 + 4 5 + + 5 - - - - 15 6 = 15 + 6 - - - - 21 When you do subtraction calculations, if the equation has more than two values, the EC-2033 displays and calculates the result of the first two values, subtracts the next value, takes that result and subtracts the next, and so on. Example: Calculation You Press You See 100 - 4 - 6 = 100 - 4 - 6 100 60 = - 4 - - - - 96 96 - 6 - - - - 90 QUIZZES Automatic Quiz Follow these steps to take an arithmetic quiz with the problems the EC-2033 randomly gives you. 1. Press EX1 (Exercise 1). The EC-2033 displays EX1 and the first arithmetic problem. 2. Enter the answer to the problem. NOTES: To move the cursor to the next line while entering the answer, press =. To correct a wrong digit entry, press > to delete digits, then enter the correct numbers. During multiplication, addition, and subtraction, to enter more than one digit for the calculation result, enter the numbers from right to left. For example, to enter 12 as the result of 4 x 3, you should enter 2 and then 1. 3. Press = to see if you entered the correct answer. If the answer is wrong, FALSE appears and the EC-2033 displays the equation again. Try entering the correct answer. If you enter three wrong answers, the EC-2033 displays AnS and the correct answer. If the answer is correct on the first try, you get 3 points. Point 3 Acc 0003 appears on the display. If you get the correct answer on the second try, you get 2 points. If you get the correct answer on the third try, you get 1 point. The EC-2033 automatically totals and displays the score. 4. After each correct answer, or the third incorrect answer, a new problem appears on the display. SELF-SETTING QUIZ Follow these steps to set up your own arithmetic problems. 1. Press EX2 (Exercise 2) . data - - 00, and EX2 appear. 2. Set up the arithmetic equation. For example, enter 85 x 2 =. The display shows: EX2 85 x _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _2 - 3. Press =. data - - 01 and \/ or /\ appear. (data - - XX shows the number of problems set up.) 4. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 to enter up to 25 equations. NOTE: The EC-2033 displays FULL if you try to set up more than 25 equations. To delete one equation, press \/or /\ to display the desired equation then press CE/C. delete y-n appears. Press < to select y then press =. To delete all of the equations you stored, see "Resetting the Calculator," Faxback Doc.# , Preparation. Follow these steps to take the quiz you set up. 1. Press EX2 (Exercise 2). data - - XX, and (scroll up and down arrows) appear. 2. Press /\ or \/ to go to the equation you want to try to answer. 3. Enter your answer. If your answer is correct, the EC-2033 displays correct. If your answer is wrong, the EC-2033 displays FALSE and shows you the correct answer. 4. For additional practice, press /\. The equation you just answered incorrectly appears. Enter the correct answer. 5. To check your score, repeatedly press /\ or \/ until the score screen at the end of the problems appears. SINGLE-LINE MODE In this mode, the EC-2033 displays calculation results without displaying the full equations. Press SINGLE/MULTI-LINE to switch to the single-line mode. Calculator appears at the upper left of the display. A memory result exceeds eight digits. (But, memory contents remain unchanged.) The calculation result exceeds eight digits to the left of the decimal point. This is an overflow error. Press CE/C to remove the E from the display. Approximating Calculation Results If you perform a calculation that results in an overflow error, you can approximate the correct answer (to eight significant digits) by following these steps. 1. Count the number of digits displayed to the left of the decimal point. 2. Remove the decimal point. 3. Add as many zeros to the end of the results as there were digits to the left of the decimal point. Examples: Approximate Calculation Display Answer 96857431 + E 1.0142064 101'420'640 4563211 = (add one 101'420'642 zero) 123456 x E 31.970165 3'197'016'500 25896 = (add two 3'197'016'576 zeros) STORING TELEPHONE NUMBERS Follow these steps to store up to five important telephone numbers. 1.
