EC-456 Dual Powered Calculator (650-0898) Care and Maintenance Faxback Doc. # 18420 The Radio Shack EC-456 Dual-Powered Calculator is an example of superior design and craftsmanship. The following suggestions will help you care for your calculator so you can enjoy it for years. Keep the calculator dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Use and store the calculator only in normal temperature environments. Handle the calculator gently and carefully. Don't drop it. Keep the calculator away from dust and dirt. Wipe the calculator with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new. Use only fresh batteries of the required size and type. Modifying or tampering with your calculator's internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate its warranty. If your calculator is not performing as it should, take it to your local Radio Shack store for assistance. REPLACING THE BATTERY Although your calculator uses solar power most of the time, the back-up battery eventually weakens and needs replacing. If the display dims in a dark room, replace the 389A battery (we recommend Radio Shack (Cat. No. 23-117, not supplied). 1. Remove the two screws from the back cover using a small Phillips screwdriver. 2. Insert a small, flatblade screwdriver between the case halves starting on the calculator's top edge. Twist the screwdriver slightly to separate the front and back case halves. 3. Repeat Step 2 on the calculator's right and bottom edges. 4. Remove the old battery. WARNINGS: Keep batteries out of reach of children. Swallowing a button-cell battery can be fatal. Always dispose of an old battery promptly and properly. Do not burn the battery. 5. Insert the new battery with the positive (+) side up. 6. Snap the case halves back together. 7. Secure the back cover with the screws. (CD 11/2/95)
