EC-367 Telephone Directory with Spell Checker (650-0881) Secret Memory Area Faxback Doc. # 31526 USING THE SECRET MEMORY AREA The EC-367's secret memory area protects your data against anyone seeing it except you. Once you register a password of up to 8 characters long, only those who input the correct password can view the data stored in the secret memory area. TO REGISTER A PASSWORD AND CREATE A SECRET MEMORY AREA EXAMPLE: To register the password "ABC". 1. Press SECRET. 2. If necessary, press ALPHA/NUMBER to display the alpha-character mode indicator ([A]), then press the keys that spell out the password: [A] [B] [C]. 3. Press SET to store the password. The key symbol appears to indicate you have entered the secret memory area. If a different password was already registered, PASSWORD ? reappears on the display. IMPORTANT! If you forget your password, you will not be able to access any of the data stored in the secret memory area. If this happens, you can clear the secret memory area then register your password again. To clear the secret memory area, however, you must perform the RESET operation, which clears the password and deletes all data in memory. TO INPUT DATA IN THE SECRET MEMORY AREA 1. Press SECRET. 2. Input the correct password. 3. Press SET. If you input the wrong password, PASSWORD ? appears when you press SET. Carefully input the correct password. 4. Now you can input data as described under "Inputting and Editing Characters". To exit the secret memory area, press TELEPHONE, SPELL, or SECRET. The key symbol disappears. TO RECALL DATA IN THE SECRET MEMORY AREA 1. Press SECRET. 2. Input the correct password. 3. Press SET. 4. Now you can recall data as described in "Recalling data". TO EDIT OR DELETE DATA IN THE SECRET MEMORY AREA 1. Press SECRET. 2. Input the correct password. 3. Press SET. 4. Now you can edit data as described in "To Edit Stored Data" and delete data as described in "To Delete Data from Memory". TO CHANGE THE PASSWORD 1. Press SECRET. 2. Input the current password. 3. Press SET. 4. Press CLR then SECRET to display the current password. 5. Press EDIT. The cursor appears under the first letter of the current password. 6. Make any changes you want to the password and then press SET to register it. To cancel this operation at any time before you press SET in Step 6, press TELEPHONE. (EB 3/26/96)
