EC-2034 12-Digit Desktop Calculator (650-0592) Operation Faxback Doc. # 31605 TURNING THE CALCULATOR ON AND OFF Press ON/C or AC to turn on your calculator. Press OFF to turn it off. NOTE: If you do not make an entry within about 10 minutes, your calculator automatically turns off. USING THE ROUNDING SWITCH Use the rounding switch to tell the calculator how to round numbers. When you set the switch to down, the calculator rounds all calculation results down. For example, if you set A 0 2 3 F to 2 and set the rounding switch to down, then enter 1 / 8=, the calculator rounds the result down from 0.125 to 0.12. When you set the switch to 5/4, the calculator rounds up calculation results ending in 5 or above, and rounds down results ending in 4 and below. For example, if you set A 0 2 3 F to 2 and set the rounding switch to 5/4, then enter 1 / 8=, the calculator rounds the result up from 0.125 to 0.13. USING THE GRAND TOTAL SWITCH Use the grand total switch to turn the grand total function on and off. When the grand total switch is set to GT (on), the calculator displays the grand total of all calculations when you press the GT key. USING A 0 2 3 F Use A 0 2 3 F to select how many digits the calculator displays after the decimal point. Select 0, 2, or 3 to display the number of digits to the right of the decimal point. The calculator rounds calculation results to the specified number of digits. Select F for a floating decimal point. The calculator uses the full 12-digit display to show your calculation results. Select A to automatically insert a decimal point before the last two digits for addition and subtraction. For example, if you enter 32534 +, the calculator displays this as 325.34. USING 00 Use this key to enter zeros quickly. Press 00 once to enter two zeros at a time. USING > Use the > to correct the last digit you entered. For example, if you want to enter 1234567, but accidentally enter 1234568, just press > key to delete the 8. Then enter 7. MODE CALCULATION YOU PRESS YOU SEE SELECTION 5/4 1234 x 60= 1235 1'235. F 74040 > 123. * 4 1'234. x 60= 74'040. NOTE: You cannot use > to correct a function key (+, -, x, /) entry. CORRECTING ENTRY ERRORS If you enter an incorrect value that you cannot correct using >, press ON/C once. Then enter the correct value and proceed with your calculation. For example, if you enter 143 instead of 123, press ON/C, then enter 123. If you press an incorrect function key (+, -, x, /), simply press the correct function key and continue with your calculation. To clear a calculation from the display, press ON/C. To clear the calculation from the display and any values stored in the memory, press AC. CALCULATION ERRORS E (error) appears at the lower left of the display when: A calculation result exceeds 12 digits to the left of the decimal point (see "Estimating Calculation Results"). This is an overflow error. A memory calculation result exceeds 12 digits to the left of the decimal point. (The memory contents remain unchanged.) You try to divide by 0. You try to calculate the square root of a negative number. If E appears, press ON/C to clear the error. ESTIMATING CALCULATION RESULTS If you perform an operation that results in an overflow error, you can estimate the correct result (to 12 significant digits) by following these steps. 1. Count the number of digits displayed to the left of the decimal point. 2. Remove the decimal point. 3. Add as many zeros to the right of the number as there were digits to the left of the decimal point. For example, if the display shows E 362.510142064, the approximate answer is 362,510,142,064,000. MEMORY CALCULATIONS To store a value in memory, first press ON/C, then MC (memory clear) to clear the memory. Then enter the number or calculation and press M. To add a value to the current memory value, enter the number or calculation you want to add and press M+. The calculator totals the current calculation and adds that value to memory. To subtract a value from the current memory value, enter the number or calculation you want to subtract and press M-. The calculator totals the current calculation and subtracts that value from memory. To recall the value from memory, press MR once. MODE CALCULATION YOU PRESS YOU SEE SELECTION 5/4 ON/C MC 0. The gross profit margin is the percentage of the selling price that is profit. Price - Cost (Profit) ____________________ = Gross Profit Margin Price For example, if you want a gross profit margin of 20% on an item that cost you $100, the selling price is $125. MODE CALCULATION YOU PRESS YOU SEE SELECTION 5/4 COST = $100 100 / 20 MU 125. F MARGIN = 20% * PRICE = $125 PROFIT = $25 MU 25.
