EC-374 My Super Magic Diary (650-0837) Reset Operations Faxback Doc. # 31608 Use the following procedures to clear data from the unit's memory and reset the unit to its initial settings. There are two types of reset operations. All-Reset deletes all data in the memory. Secret Reset deletes only your password and the data in the Secret Memory Area (see below). IMPORTANT: Do not use a very sharp pencil or other breakable object to press the RESET button. Be sure to reset the unit before using it for the first time. Perform the reset operation only after checking to make sure that the main batteries and back-up battery are correctly installed. TO PERFORM ALL-RESET 1. Turn power off by pressing OFF. 2. Loosen the screw of the small battery compartment cover on the back of the unit, and remove the cover. 3. Press the RESET button with a thin, pointed object, such as a straightened paper clip. 4. Press \/ to select "Reset." then press EXE. 5. Press < to select "Yes," then press EXE. * The main menu appears when the data is deleted. * "Exit" aborts without resetting. 6. Insert the tabs on the bottom of the battery compartment cover into the slots of the battery compartment and carefully close the cover. Secure the cover in place with the screw. Following are the initial settings of the unit after you perform the all reset operation. Home Time Zone: London (LON) Home Time Setting: 12:00 AM, January 1, 1990 World Time: New York (NYC) 12/24-Hour Clock: 12-Hour Clock Alarm: OFF Alarm Time: 12:00 AM Hourly Time Signal: OFF Key Input Tone: ON Date Format: Month/Day/Year Language: English TO PERFORM SECRET RESET Perform the steps under "To Perform All-Reset" above, but select "Del Secret Data" in place of "Reset" in step 4. SECRET MEMORY AREA You can create a Secret Memory Area to store your private data. To create a Secret Memory Area 1. Highlight KEY on the Main Menu, then press EXE. 2. Input the password you want to use. A password can be up to 16 characters, numbers, and symbols. Use a password that is easy for you to remember. It's a good idea to write it down somewhere so you don't forget it. 3. Press EXE. You now have a Secret Memory Area. The indicator KEY shows you are in the Secret Memory Area. To go back to the Open Memory Area, select KEY in the Main Menu, then press EXE. WARNING: You can have only one password at a time. If you forget your password, you have to perform the secret reset operation and delete all secret data before you can create a new Secret Memory Area with a new password. To Enter the Secret Memory Area 1. Highlight KEY on the Main Menu, than press EXE. 2. Input the password, then press EXE. Once you are in the Secret Memory Area, you can input, edit, and recall Telephone Directory, Schedule, and Data Memo data just as you do in the Open Memory Area. To go back to the Open Memory Area, highlight KEY on the Main Menu then press EXE. TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD 1. Enter the Secret Memory Area, then display the Main Menu. 2. Press FUNCTION. 3. Highlight "Password Change," then press EXE. 4. Input the new password, then press EXE. TO TRANSFER DATA FROM THE OPEN MEMORY AREA TO THE SECRET MEMORY AREA 1. Display the data you want to transfer. 2. Press FUNCTION. 3. Highlight "Open <-> Secret" then press EXE. 4. Input your password, then press EXE. 5. After the transfer is complete the date is shown on a Secret Memory. Area Screen (with the KEY indicator). TO TRANSFER DATA FROM THE SECRET MEMORY AREA TO THE OPEN MEMORY AREA 1. In the Secret Memory Area, display the data you want to transfer. 2. Press FUNCTION. 3. Use /\ or \/ to highlight "Open <-> Memory Area. 4. After the transfer is complete, the date is shown on an Open Memory Area screen (no KEY indicator). WHEN THE UNIT DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY... The unit may not work properly after being subjected to strong electrostatic charge or severe impact. If this happens, perform the following steps. 1. Loosen the screw of the small battery compartment cover on the back of the unit, and remove the cover. 2. Check to make sure that the main batteries and back-up battery are correctly installed (see "About the Power Supply" on Faxback Doc. # 31610). 3. Press the RESET button on the back of the unit with a thin, pointed object. 4. Press /\ to select Exit (if necessary), then press EXE. This causes the message "Check time!" to appear. 5. Press any key, then use the procedures on Faxback Doc. # 31617 to set the current time. 6. Insert the tabs on the bottom of the battery compartment cover into the slots of the battery compartment and carefully close the cover. Secure the cover in place with the screw. (EB 4/1/96)
