EC-374 My Super Magic Diary (650-0837) Battery Faxback Doc. # 31610 LOW BATTERY WARNING The message "Main Battery Getting Weak! Replace it!" appears when battery power is low. Replace the main batteries immediately. IMPORTANT! The OFF key is the only function that works when the low battery message is on the display. If you do not turn off power, the unit automatically turns off in about 30 seconds. ABOUT THE POWER SUPPLY This unit actually has two power supplies. Main Batteries: Two AAA alkaline batteries (Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-555) for normal operations. Back-up Battery: One CR2032 lithium battery (Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-162) to store data in memory. Memory contents are lost when main batteries and the back-up battery are removed at the same time. Be sure to leave either the main batteries or the back-up battery in the unit to avoid loss of data. If you remove the main batteries for a long time, memory contents may be damaged or deleted if the back-up battery becomes weak. Whenever contents appear to be damaged, use the ALL-RESET operation on Faxback Doc. # 31608 to clear them. IMPORTANT! Be sure that the positive (+) and negative) (-) battery poles are facing correctly. Never mix main batteries of different types. Never leave dead batteries in the unit. Remove the AAA batteries if you do not expect to use the unit for a long time. Replace the main batteries at least once every two years and the back-up battery every five years, no matter how much you use the unit. WARNING: Never try to recharge the batteries supplied with the unit. Do not expose batteries to direct heat, do not short circuit them, and do not try to take them apart. Keep batteries out of the reach of small children. If swallowed, consult a physician immediately. The batteries that come installed in this unit are for factory test purposes, so they will probably not provide normal service life. TO REPLACE THE MAIN BATTERIES 1. Turn power off. 2. Loosen the screw of the large battery compartment cover on the back of the unit, and slide the cover in the direction noted by the arrow. 3. Remove the old batteries. 4. Making sure the positive (+) and negative (-) ends of the batteries are facing correctly, load two new batteries into the compartment. Be sure to replace both old batteries with new ones. 5. Insert the tabs on the bottom of the battery compartment cover into the slots of the battery compartment and carefully close the cover. Secure the cover in place with the screw. TO REPLACE THE BACK-UP BATTERY 1. Turn power off. 2. Loosen the screw of the small battery compartment cover on the back of the unit, and remove the cover. (Figure 4) 3. Remove the old battery. 4. Wipe off a new battery with a soft cloth. Next, load it into the compartment making sure that the positive (+) side is facing up (so you can see it). (Figure 5) 5.
