Use this mode to check the fortune for any date from January 1, 1901 through December 31, 2099. To Tell Someone's Fortune 1. Highlight SYMBOL on the Main Menu, then press EXE. 2. Input the birthday of the person, then press EXE. 3. Input the date you want to check, then press EXE. More black stars indicate a higher luck level. 4. Press EXE to return to the birthday input. About the Fortune Telling Display Number of Black Stars Luck Level 9 or 10 Great 7 or 8 Good 5 or 6 Okay 3 or 4 Poor 1 or 2 Temple MATCH MAKER MODE Use this mode to find out the compatibility of two people born between January 1, 1901 through December 31, 2099. To Check Compatibility between Two People 1. Highlight SYMBOL on the Main Menu and press EXE. 2. Input the birthday of one of the persons, then press EXE. 3. Input the birthday of another person, then press EXE. * More solid hearts indicate a higher compatibility level. 4. Press EXE to return to birthday input. About the Match Maker Display Number of Solid Hearts Compatibility Level 9 or 10 Excellent 7 or 8 Pretty Good 5 or 6 So-So 3 or 4 Not Too Good 1 or 2 Bad PET MODE In the Pet Mode, you can have fun playing with the cute little puppy that romps on the display. Look out for other animals that suddenly appear too. To Enter the Pet Mode Press PET. The puppy appears on the display whenever you enter the Pet Mode. To Play with the Puppy. 1. Enter the Pet Mode. 2. Press EXE. 3. While the Magic Beam indicator is shown on the display, hold your hand in front of the Magic Beam windows until the unit beeps twice and the puppy sits to wait for next hand command. The unit will not beep if you turned the key input tone off. 4. While the Magic Beam indicator is shown on the display, perform a hand command in front of the unit's Magic Beam windows. The unit beeps twice and the puppy reacts. 5. When the Magic Beam indicator appears again, you can give your next command. If you do not perform a hand command for about 10 seconds, the unit automatically stops the Magic Beam operation. Press EXE again and continue from step 3, above. What to Do in Case of Problems... If you have problems in the Pet Mode, check the following points. Batteries may be dead. Check to see if the low battery message is on the display. If so, replace batteries. The light in the room may be too bright, or you may be too near a window or bright light. Try moving to another place. The Magic Beam windows may be pointing at a nearby wall or other object. Move at least one meter away from the wall or object. MAGIC BEAM MODE Use this mode to send and receive messages and Telephone Directory data using infrared light. Important! You can exchange data with the Radio Shack EC-364, EC-371, or EC-376. To Enter the Magic Beam Mode Highlight SYMBOL on the Main Menu and press EXE. Things to Remember when Sending Data... Both the sending and receiving unit must be in Magic Beam mode to communicate. If data cannot be sent, the message "Communication Error" appears. Press EXE to try to resend, or C/CLEAR to clear the display and abort. You can interrupt a send operation by holding down AC/ON for at least one second. If Magic Beam data is received while you are performing another Magic Beam operation, the receive data appears at the top of the display. Be sure that the two units are within 8 meters (8.7 yards) of each other. Note the angle between the two units can be up to 40 degrees (room lit by fluorescent lighting to a level of 500 lux). Effective range Approximately 8 meters (8.7 yards) when both units are pointed directly at each other. To Set Up to Receive a Message Enter the Magic Beam Mode and the unit is ready to receive. To Send a Message You Input Example To send the message: "HAVE A NICE DAY" 1. Enter the Magic Beam Mode. 2. Input the message. H A V E SPACE A SPACE N I C E SHIFT (enter key) D A Y You can input up to 28 characters. If you make a mistake, use < or > to move the cursor and then input the correct text. Or press C/CLEAR to clear text and start again. 3. Press EXE to send. 4. After the message is sent, "Message?" appears asking for input of the next message. PRESET MESSAGES The unit comes with 10 preset messages that you can use or replace with your own. To Send a Preset Message Example To send the preset message: What are you doing? 1. Enter the Magic Beam Mode. 2. Press /\ or \/ to display the preset messages. 3. Use /\ or \/ to scroll through the messages until the one you want is displayed. 4. Press EXE to send the displayed message. 5. After the message is sent, "Message?" appears asking for input of the next message. To Edit Preset Messages 1. Enter the Magic Beam Mode. 2. While "Message?" is on the display, press FUNCTION. 3. Highlight "Create Message," then press EXE. 4. Use /\ or \/ to scroll through the messages until the one you want is displayed. 5. Use the procedures under "Inputting Text" to change the existing message or to input a completely new one. To clear the message, press C/CLEAR. 6. Press EXE to store the new message. Input text remains in memory until you change it or perform the All RESET operation (see Faxback Doc. # 31608). ALL-RESET recalls the original preset messages. TELEPHONE DIRECTORY DATA Use the following procedures to send and receive Telephone Directory data. If you want to send or receive Telephone Directory data in the secret memory area, be sure to enter the secret memory area before you begin. To Set Up for Receiving Telephone Directory Data 1. Enter the Magic Beam Mode. 2. Press FUNCTION. 3. Highlight "Telephone," then press EXE. The unit is now standing by to receive Telephone Directory data. 4. To receive another Telephone Directory data item, press AC/ON to clear the last item from the display. If there is not enough free memory to store received data, the message "Memory Full!" appears. To Send Telephone Directory Data Example: To send the Telephone Directory data for Eric Jackson. 1. Enter the Magic Beam Mode. 2. Press FUNCTION. 3. Highlight "Telephone" and press EXE. 4. Use /\ or \/ to scroll through the names on the display until the one you want is highlighted. You can switch the face display on or off using < or >. 5. Press EXE to send data for the highlighted name. 6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 if you want to send more data. If there is not enough free memory to store received data, the message "Memory Full" appears. Things to Check for if You Have Problems with Magic Beam Move the two units closer together if battery power is weak. Move the two units closer together if they are at an angle of more than 40 degrees from each other. Communication is impossible if an object is blocking the path between the two units. Move the two units closer together outdoors, near a window, or in other brightly lit areas. Bright light may even make Magic Beam operations impossible. * Magic Beam operations may be impossible if there is a third unit nearby. (EB 4/1/96)
