EC-3030 12-Digit Two-Color Desktop Printing Calculator (650-0753) Operation Faxback Doc. # 31859 TURNING THE EC-3030 ON/OFF AND SELECTING THE PRINTER MODE Set P/NP/OFF to either P or NP to turn on the EC-3030. You can set the calculator to print or not print. Select P to have the calculator print. Select NP to have the calculator not print. The EC-3030 automatically turns off about 7 minutes after the last entry to conserve battery power. NOTE: If the EC-3030 automatically turns off, you must turn P/NP/OFF to OFF then back to P or NP to turn it back on. Set P/NP/OFF to OFF to turn off the EC-3030 before it automatically turns off. Printer Symbols When the calculator is set to print, it prints these symbols to indicate certain functions: Symbol Function C Clear * Total % Percentage + Addition - Subtraction + Division = Equals Diamond Subtotal X Multiplication M+ Add to Memory M- Subtract from Memory M* Memory Subtotal M Diamond Memory Total/Clear SELECTING A FLOATING OR FIXED DECIMAL POINT The A/F/0/2/3 switch determines how many digits the calculator displays and prints out after the decimal point. When you select A (automatic), the calculator automatically inserts a decimal point before the last two digits for addition or subtraction. When you select F (floating), the decimal point floats. When you select 0, 2, or 3, the calculator displays only that selected number of digits after the decimal point. For example, if you set the switch to 3 then enter 3258 +, the calculator display/prints 3258.000. All calculations use the calculator's full 12-digit accuracy. However, if you select one of the fixed decimal point settings (0, 2, or 3), the calculator automatically rounds the display to show only that number of digits. For example, if you set the decimal switch to 2, then enter 2 / 3 =, the calculator makes the actual result of 0.666666666667 display as 0.67. ENTERING DOUBLE ZEROS Press 00 to quickly enter two zeros. For example, if you enter 5 then 00, 500 appears on the display. CORRECTING ENTRY ERRORS If you enter an incorrect value or press the wrong function key, press CE (clear entry) once. Then enter the correct value or function and proceed with your calculation. DISPLAY ERRORS E (error) appears on the lower left corner of the display when: A calculation result exceeds 12 digits. This is an overflow error (see "Approximating Overflow Errors", below). A memory calculation exceeds 12 digits (the memory contents remain unchanged). You try to divide by 0. If E appears, press CE to clear the error. APPROXIMATING OVERFLOW ERRORS If your calculation results in a number that exceeds 12 digits, you can estimate the correct result (to 12 significant digits) by following these steps. 1. Count the number of digits displayed to the left of the decimal point. 2. Remove the decimal point. 3. Add as many zeroes to the right of the number as there were digits to the left of the decimal point. For example, E 123,456,789.870 = 123,456,789,870,000,000,000. CALCULATION EXAMPLES Before performing each calculation, press M* to clear the memory (if necessary) then ON/C to clear the last calculation and any value displayed. ADDITION AND SUBTRACTION Your calculator uses the adding machine entry method to do addition and subtraction calculations. To add or subtract, first enter the value, then press a function key (+ or -). M+ adds the displayed value to memory. If any multiplication or division is pending, the EC-3030 performs the calculation then adds the result to memory and displays/prints it. M- subtracts the displayed value from memory. If any multiplication or division is pending, the EC-3030 performs the calculation then subtracts the result from memory and displays/prints it. M displays/prints the contents in memory without clearing it. M* displays/prints the contents in memory and clears it. Example: (12 X 3) + (75 X 8) + (37 X 7) = 895.
