10K Data Directory With Spell Checker (650-0882) Operation II Faxback Doc. # 32672 DAILY ALARM You can set the EC-369 so it sounds an alarm and displays a message at the same time every day. When the set daily alarm time is reached, the EC-369 sounds an alarm for about 20 seconds and displays the set alarm message. To stop the alarm while it is sounding, press any key. NOTES: If the EC-369 is off when the set alarm time is reached, the EC-369 turns itself on, sounds the alarm, and displays the set alarm time and message. If you press a key (while entering data, for example) at the exact time the daily alarm is set to sound, the alarm might not sound. SETTING THE ALARM AND MESSAGE Follow these steps to set the daily alarm. 1. Repeatedly press (clock symbol) until ALARM and the last set alarm time appear on the display. NOTE: If an alarm message was previously entered, that message appears instead of ALARM on the message line. 2. Press EDIT. MESSAGE? appears on the display. NOTE: If you previously entered a message, the cursor blinks under the first character of the message and that character flashes. 3. Enter the desired alarm message (up to 32 characters), then press \/ to move the cursor to the alarm hour. 4. Enter the desired alarm hour, than press > to move the cursor to the alarm minutes. 5. Enter the desired alarm minutes, then press ENTER to store the alarm message and time. A dash ( - ) appears above ALARM CHIME at the bottom of the display. This means the alarm is now turned on and will sound at the preset time. NOTE: If you are using the 12-hour time format, press A or P for AM or PM in this step. To change the daily alarm time, repeat these steps. TURNING THE ALARM ON/OFF The alarm is automatically set to sound each time you change the alarm time and/or message. To set the EC-369 so it does not sound the preset daily alarm, repeatedly press (clock symbol) until the last set alarm time and message appear on the display, then press Z/(chime symbol). The dash above ALARM CHIME disappears. To set it to sound again without changing the time or message, repeatedly press (clock symbol) until the last set alarm time and message appear on the display, then press Z(chime symbol) so a dash appears above ALARM CHIME. LOCK For privacy, you can set the EC-369 so all telephone file records stored in its memory can be accessed only by entering a four-character password you set. IMPORTANT: Choose a password you can easily remember. If you forget your password, you will be unable to access any stored telephone file records. You can reset the EC-369 (see "Resetting the EC-369", on Faxback Doc. # 32673) and store a new password; however, this deletes all stored information. LOCKING THE FILES Follow these steps to set your password and turn on the lock feature. 1. Press (key symbol). LOCK? and four dashes (---) appear on the display. 2. Enter up to four characters (numbers, letters, or both) that you want to use as a password. Each character replaces a dash on the display as you enter it. 3. Press ENTER. LOCKED and the key icon (key symbol) appear on the display. This means the EC-369's lock feature is turned on. USING THE EC-369 WITH THE FILES LOCKED If you press (phone symbol) while the lock feature is turned on, LOCKED? -- appears on the display. To view, edit, or delete telephone file records, you must enter the correct password first. After you enter the correct password, (key symbol) disappears and the file is temporarily unlocked. You can view, edit, or delete telephone file records as usual. After you finish, you can let the EC-369 turn off automatically. The next time someone turns on the EC-369, the lock feature is automatically activated and (key symbol) and LOCKED?---- appear again. Or, to activate the lock feature again immediately so no one can see your telephone file records before the EC-369 turns off, simply press any other feature's key (such as [clock symbol] or [SPELL]). UNLOCKING THE FILES Follow these steps to turn off the EC-369's lock feature. 1. Press (key symbol). LOCKED? .... appears on the display. 2. Enter the correct password then press ENTER. LOCK? ---- appears on the display, and (symbol) disappears. 3. Press ENTER again. NAME? appears, and the lock feature is turned off. NOTE: Turning off the lock feature clears your password from the EC-369's memory. The next time you turn on the lock feature, you can use the same password again or enter a new one. DOLLAR EXCHANGE The EC-369's currency exchange feature lets you convert between U.S. dollars and up to three foreign currencies. SETTING THE EXCHANGE RATES Follow these steps to set or edit the names and exchange rates of up to three different foreign currencies. 1. Press (function symbol). CALC: and 0 appear on the display. 2. Press A/EX1 (Exchange Rate 1). EX1 (or the last currency name entered) and 1. (or the last exchange rate entered) appear on the display. 3. Press EDIT. The cursor flashes under the first character of the currency name and that character flashes. 4. Enter the name of the currency (up to eight characters, such as Yen) you want to exchange. 5. Press \/, then enter the exchange rate for the selected foreign currency. NOTE: If you make a mistake, press CLR/CE then enter the correct amount. 6. Press ENTER to store the exchange information. NOTE: To set or edit the currency name and exchange rate for another foreign currency, repeat these steps and press EX2 or EX3 in Step 2. CONVERTING U.S. DOLLARS TO A FOREIGN CURRENCY 1. Press (function symbol). CALC: and 0 appear on the display. 2. Enter the amount of U.S. dollars you want to convert. NOTE: If you make a mistake, press CLR/CE then enter the correct amount. 3. Press the desired exchange rate key (EX1, EX2, or EX3). The amount of foreign currency equal to the amount of U.S. dollars you entered appears on the display. 4. Repeat Steps 1-3 for each amount of U.S. dollars you want to convert to a foreign currency. CONVERTING A FOREIGN CURRENCY TO U.S. DOLLARS 1. Press (function symbol). CALC: and 0 appear on the display. 2. Enter the amount of foreign currency you want to convert. NOTE: If you make a mistake, press CLR/CE then enter the correct amount. 3. Press V/EX REV (Exchange Reverse). 4. Press the desired exchange rate key (EX1, EX2, or EX3) The amount of foreign currency you entered appears on the display. 5. Repeat Steps 1-4 for each amount of foreign currency you want to convert to U.S. dollars. CALCULATOR To use your EC-369 to perform standard arithmetic, memory, and percentage calculations, press (function symbol). CALC: and 0. appear on the display. CALCULATOR TIPS Press CLR/CE once to cancel the last entry, or press it twice to clear The display for the next calculation. When you enter an operator (+, -, x, or /) during a calculation, the operator's symbol appears in the upper right corner of the display. If you enter the wrong operator during a calculation, simply press the correct one to replace it. If the result of a calculation is more than 10 digits long or if you try to divide a number by 0, E (error) appears. If this happens, press CLR/CE to clear the display. A minus sign ( - ) appears to the right of the number(s) if the result of a calculation is negative. STANDARD CALCULATIONS To perform a standard calculation, press the keys in the order the calculation would appear on paper. For example: You press: You see: 3 + 4= 7. 8 x 3 - 4= 20. 6 / 3 + 2= 4. MEMORY CALCULATIONS The memory calculation feature lets you easily do multistep calculations. Use the memory keys as follows: Press Q/MCR once to recall the value in memory, or press it twice to clear the memory. Press K/M- to total a calculation and subtract the total from memory. Press E/M+ to total a calculation and add the total to memory. PERCENT CALCULATIONS Calculate percentages as follows: To calculate You press: You see: What is 12% of 150? 150 x 12% 18.
