Security Siren/Strobe (490-0478) Installation Faxback Doc. # 15883 Light Before installing your Security Siren/Strobe Light, check that your alarm system's siren output is capable of supplying the 600 mA required by the siren and strobe light. CAUTION: Your alarm could be damaged or fail to function correctly if its siren output is overloaded. Select a location where: The siren is audible and the strobe is visible from outside your home. The siren is high enough (6 to 10 feet) to be out of reach, and is not directly exposed to precipitation or temperature extremes, such as on a covered porch or under an eave. You can properly route the positive and negative wires from your control center to this location (your local Radio Shack store carries the necessary wire for routing from your control center to the siren). CAUTION: Be sure you can drill holes in the wall at the mounting location without striking electrical wires or water pipes. Follow these steps to install the siren. 1. Using the siren's case as a template, mark the locations of the two screw holes. 2. Drill two 3/16-inch holes in the marked locations. 3. Drill another hole 3/16-inch in diameter, about 1/2 inch to the right of the lower screw hole, to allow you to route the siren's black and red wires into the wall or eave. 4. Route the positive and negative wires from your control center through the hole you drilled in Step 3 so they extend to the siren's mounting location. 5. Use a wire connector (such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 64-3057, not supplied) to connect the siren's black (negative) wire to your alarm system's negative wire. 6. Use another wire connector to connect the siren's red (positive) wire to your alarm system's positive wire. 7. Once the wires are connected, gently push them back into the hole you drilled in Step 3. 8. Position the siren so UP on the back of its case is upright. 9. Insert the two supplied stainless steel screws into the holes you drilled in Step 2. Tighten the screws. (ALL-07/13/95)
