Remote Control Alarm (490-0770) Operation Faxback Doc. # 16055 System The alarm system has two methods for detecting unauthorized entry into the vehicle: The motion sensor sets off the alarm if it detects movement, and the pin switches set off the alarm if someone opens the trunk, hood, or any of the doors. The system has several features that let you control its operation. For example, you can control the motion sensor's sensitivity or turn it off completely. You can disarm the system so the siren does not sound. You can even turn off the alarm system. TURNING THE SYSTEM ON AND OFF The system is normally on so it can automatically arm when you leave the vehicle. However, you might not want the system to arm for valet parking or car repair. To turn off the system, turn on the ignition and set the VALET switch to ON. No indicator lights. The system will not automatically arm, and you cannot arm it with the transmitter. To turn on the system, turn on the ignition and set the VALET switch to OFF. TURNING THE TONE ON AND OFF If you want a confirmation tone to sound once each time you arm the system and twice each time you disarm it, set the BEEP switch to ON. If you do not want the tone to sound, set the BEEP switch to OFF. TURNING THE MOTION SENSOR ON AND OFF If you want the alarm to sound when the vehicle vibrates or moves, such as when someone tries to break into or tow the vehicle, set the MOTION SENSOR switch to ON. If you do not want to use the motion sensor, set it to OFF. NOTE: What movement might or might not trigger the sensor to activate the alarm depends on the sensor's sensitivity level. See "Setting the Motion Sensor's Sensitivity." SETTING THE MOTION SENSOR'S SENSITIVITY The motion sensor detects vibrations. You can decrease the sensor's sensitivity by turning the control counterclockwise to - so strong vibrations are required to turn the alarm ON, or you can increase the sensitivity by turning the control clockwise to + so even slight vibrations can trigger the alarm. Follow these steps to adjust the sensor's sensitivity. 1. Use a screwdriver to turn the sensitivity control fully clockwise (most sensitive). 2. After arming the system with the arm/disarm transmitter, test the sensor by hitting the vehicle with your hands until the indicator lights. 3. Turn the control counterclockwise by several degrees, and test the sensor again. Repeat this process as many times as needed to select the desired sensitivity. ARMING THE SYSTEM Arming the system sets the siren to sound. Before you attempt to arm the system, be sure it is turned on. See "Turning the System On and Off." Automatic Arming Be sure the vehicle's ignition has been on for at least 6 seconds. Then turn off the ignition and step out of the vehicle. The system arms 30 seconds after you close all doors, the hood, and trunk. The status indicators flash. If you open the hood, trunk, or one of the doors during the 30-second delay, the system enters a stand-by mode. After you close the hood, trunk, and all the doors, the system restarts the 30-second delay. At the end of the 30-second delay period, the system arms. If you use automatic arming, you have a 12-second entry delay, during which time the alarm does not sound. Remote Arming The transmitter has a range of about 20 feet. To arm the system from outside the vehicle, press ARM on the transmitter. The red indicators light and the confirmation tone sounds (if the BEEP switch is set to ON). This indicates the system is armed. If you use this method to arm the system, there is no entry delay. DISARMING THE SYSTEM The method for disarming the system depends on the method you used for arming the system. After Automatic Arming If you open the trunk, hood, or a door after automatic arming, the system begins a 12-second entry delay. During this delay, shut all doors, the trunk, and the hood and disarm the system by turning the ignition to the ON position, or by simply pressing DISARM on the remote before opening the trunk, hood, or any door. After Remote Arming If you armed the system with the remote transmitter, you must disarm it from outside the vehicle (with all the doors, the trunk, and the hood closed) to prevent sounding the alarm. Press DISARM on the transmitter. This disables the alarm so you can access the vehicle. The confirmation tone sounds (if the BEEP switch is set to ON). TRIGGERING THE ALARM You can sound the alarm's siren in several ways. When automatically armed, if you open a door, the hood, or the trunk after the 30-second delay period, the alarm sounds after a 12-second entry delay. If you open a door, the hood, or the trunk, when the system was remote armed, the alarm sounds instantly. If you press ARM and DISARM at the same time on the remote. If the motion sensor detects vibrations the siren sounds after 12 seconds if the system was automatically armed or instantly if the system was remotely armed. The alarm sounds for 5 minutes or until you disarm the system. If you do not disarm the system, the system arms and the red indicator blinks continuously, letting you know the alarm was activated. SOUNDING THE PANIC ALARM This feature lets you summon help in case of an emergency. To sound the panic alarm, press ARM and DISARM on the remote transmitter at the same time. The siren sounds immediately, regardless of the position of any of the controls. NOTE: The panic alarm does not operate when the ignition is on. SYSTEM STATUS INDICATORS The red indicators on the indicator module and console let you know if the system is armed, in a delay period, if the alarm sounded, and if it is in the stand-by mode. RED OFF: System is not armed. RED ON: System is armed. RED SLOWLY FLASHING: System is automatically armed as soon as last hood, door or trunk is closed, or the system has been violated at least once. RED SHORT FLASHING: System is remote disarmed; there has been at least one violation. RED FAST FLASHING: Exit delay. (LLG/all-07/21/95)
