Wireless Alarm System (490-2011) Troubleshooting Faxback Doc. # 16949 If you experience problems with your wireless alarm system, try correcting the problem as suggested in this section. If you cannot correct the problem, contact your local Radio Shack store for assistance. PROBLEM Cannot arm/disarm the system at the base. You have entered an incorrect access code. If you forget the access code, press RESET on the base (see "If You Forget the ACCESS Code"). Check that each sensor/ transmitter is working properly and that you have not left a door or window open. Then arm/disarm the system. You open a door or window and the alarm Check to see if the system is does not trip. armed. Test the sensor/transmitter to make sure it is working properly. See "Testing the Door/Window Transmitter" and "Testing the Infrared Motion Sensor." The base beeps about every 1 1/2 minutes. One of the transmitter's batteries is low or missing. Check the BATT LOW and ZONE indicators on the base and replace the low battery. NOTE: The base only beeps if a transmitter's battery is low. If just the base's backup batteries are low, the BATT LOW indicator flashes, but the base does not beep. The alarm trips from the PANIC/TEST Check to see if the switch button on the transmitter, but it does and magnet are properly not trip when you open a door or window aligned. or when the motion detector senses movement. Check the connections to the switch's/transmitter's terminals. Make sure the switch inside the door/window transmitter is correctly set. Ensure that the switch and magnet are not too far apart (less than 1/4 inch). A transmitter's operation is erratic. The base is not consistently receiving the transmitter's signal. For the best reception, rotate the base's antenna so it is perpendicular to the base. A transmitter mounted on or near a concrete or metal wall or door might not function correctly. Move the transmitter. The transmitter is out of the base's range (150 feet). Move the transmitter or base. In order to allow an exit delay, the switch must be set to DOOR, and the switch must be set before the transmitter is learned by the base. Set the switch correctly and reinstall it, if necessary. Do not place the motion sensor near an air conditioning or heating vent. Do not place it in a direct source of bright light, such as sunlight. Use the lower-sector filter to prevent the sensor from detecting the movements of pets or children. Adjust the settings at PULSE, MIN/MAX, and SENSITIVITY. Use the remote control closer to the base. The remote control's battery is weak. Replace the battery. Unable to install a transmitter. Check that the base is set to learn mode. Unable to install a remote control. The console only accepts 3 remote controls.
