Remote Control Talking Alarm System (490-0740) Operation Faxback Doc. # 17327 TRIGGERING THE ALARM The alarm's siren is triggered in these ways: When the system is automatically armed and a door is opened after the 30-second delay period, the alarm sounds after a 12-second entry delay. If the door is opened and the system was remotely armed, the alarm sounds instantly. If ARM and DISARM are pressed at the same time on the transmitter, the panic alarm sounds instantly. If the motion sensor detects vibration, the system announces a warning message, "This vehicle is equipped with an alarm, please step back." If the motion sensor detects vibration again within 30 seconds after the warning, the siren sounds after 12 seconds (if the system was automatically armed) or instantly (if the system was remotely armed). The alarm sounds for 90 seconds or until you disarm the system. After the alarm has been triggered and the siren has sounded for 90 seconds, if the motion sensor detects vibration again with 30 seconds, the siren sounds after a 12-second entry delay (if the system was automatically armed) or instantly (if the system was remotely armed); if vibration is detected after 30 seconds, the system announces, "This vehicle is equipped with an alarm, please step back." NOTE: If you have a cellular telephone or other mobile radio equipment, turn it off before you leave your vehicle. Otherwise, your alarm can detect the power drain and sound the alarm. ARMING THE SYSTEM Automatic Arming The system automatically arms 30 seconds after you turn off the ignition. The red indicator flashes rapidly during the exit delay and lights steadily when the system arms. NOTE: If you open or close the door, hood, or trunk during the 30-second exit delay, the system restarts the 30-second delay. Remote Arming To arm the system from outside the vehicle, press ARM on the transmitter. The system announces, "System Armed" and the red indicator lights steadily when the system is armed. The transmitter has a maximum range of about 100 feet (30 meters). The actual range depends on your installation, the location of nearby metal objects, and the strength of the remote transmitter's battery. DISARMING THE SYSTEM The method for disarming the system depends on the method you used to arm it. Automatic Disarming If you open a door after automatic arming, the system begins a 12-second entry delay. During this delay, disarm the system in either of two ways: Turn on the ignition Press DISARM on the transmitter with the ignition off. The system announces, "System Disarmed, alarm was triggered." Remote Disarming If you armed the system with the remote transmitter or if the system armed itself automatically, you must disarm it with the remote transmitter from outside the vehicle (with all the doors closed). Press DISARM on the transmitter. The system announces, "System Disarmed" if you disarmed it before or during the alarm, or "System Disarmed, alarm was triggered" if you disarmed it after the automatic alarm reset. NOTE: The transmitter will not function when the ignition is turned on or set to the accessory (ACC) position. TURNING THE VALET FEATURE ON AND OFF You might not want the system to automatically arm when you use valet parking or when you put your vehicle in a repair shop. To turn on the valet feature, press VALET on the remote transmitter. The system announces, "Valet on". The green indicator flashes slowly and the system does not arm. To turn off the valet feature, press VALET on the remote transmitter again. The system announces, "Valet off" and the LED stays solid green. TURNING THE VOICE ON/OFF You can turn off the system's voice and have it sound beeps instead. To turn off the voice, press VALET and ARM at the same time with the system disarmed. The system beeps three times. To turn the voice back on, press VALET and ARM again with the system disarmed. The system announces, "Thank you." The system either announces messages or sounds beeps.
