Digital Keypad (490-0452) Connections Faxback Doc. # 17353 CONNECTING TO THE ALARM SYSTEM Follow these steps to connect the keypad to the alarm system. 1. Route four-conductor cable, such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 278-386, from the alarm system to the location where you will install the keypad. 2. Use the information in the following table to connect the wires to the alarm system and keypad. Secure the wires to the keypad by stripping about 1/2 inch of insulation from the end of each wire, loosening the terminal screw, placing the bare end of the wire under the terminal clamp, and tightening the screw. Take care to prevent the wires from touching adjacent screw terminals. No. 271-1119) between the + and _ terminals. ASSIGNING THE KEYPAD ADDRESS Each installed keypad must have a different address to properly communicate with your alarm system. If you are installing only one keypad, and there are no other keypads already connected, you do not need to change the address. If you are installing more than one keypad, or if there is already a keypad installed, follow these steps if you need to change the keypad address. 1. If there are other keypads installed (including the keypad that is supplied with the 49-485 8-zone system), remove the installed keypads and note the position of the first two dip switches on the back panels. 2. Using the tip of a pen, set the dip switches on each new keypad so no two keypads have the same setting. There are four possible settings for each keypad as shown in this chart.
