Invisible Beam Entry Alert (490-0316) General Information Faxback Doc. # 18316 INTRODUCTION Your Radio Shack Invisible Beam Entry Alert with Chime and Counter projects an invisible beam of infrared light across an area you want to secure. If the beam is interrupted, the sensor triggers the built-in chime or an optional security device (such as a telephone dialer that can call for help). With your Invisible Beam Entry Alert, you can easily detect an unauthorized entry through a doorway, window, or opening up to 50 feet wide. The infrared receiver generally will not detect room lights, indirect sunlight, or other light sources, so accidental tripping from these sources is unlikely. The Invisible Beam Entry Alert has these features: Beam Alignment Mechanism - lets you easily align the infrared beam by adjusting the beam lens up to 45° vertically and 10° horizontally and adjusting the reflector within 70° of center. Beam Alignment Indicator - tells you when the beam is properly aligned. TEST/OFF Mode - lets you easily test the Entry Alert. CHIME Mode - lets you set the Entry Alert to automatically sound the built-in chime when the beam is interrupted. ALARM Mode - lets you set the Entry Alert to trigger an external alarm or another external device (such as a phone dialer or an alarm system) when the beam is interrupted. Built-In Digital Counter - lets you know the number of times the beam is broken. Counter Reset Switch - lets you reset the counter to 000. Mounting Options - let you mount the Entry Alert main unit on a wall or desk. Sensitivity Control - lets you adjust how much activity will trigger the alarm. External Device - includes a single 12-volt DC power output to Connection provide power to an external security device. External Device - includes both Normally Open and Normally Activation Closed relay contacts to activate an external device. Power Fuse Protection - protects the Entry Alert from a short in the external alarm circuit. Optional Backup Power - can operate on an optional backup battery during a power loss. Obscured Front Cover - has a purple window to hide the Entry Alert's main unit to discourage tampering. For your records, we urge you to record the serial number of your Entry Alert in the space below. The serial number is located on the back of the main unit. See Standard Safety Precautions, Faxback Doc. #17388. GENERAL INFORMATION NOTE: Some insurance companies provide a discount for homes protected by properly installed security and fire alarm systems. Check with your insurance carrier for requirements. We recommend you read this entire manual before you install your Invisible Beam Entry Alert. You need the following additional items to install a complete Invisible Beam Entry Alert system: External alarm (such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 49-487 or 49-490) Philips screwdriver Type CL2, 22-gauge wire (Cat. No. 278-862 or 278-863) 12-volt battery (Cat. No. 23-007) This manual helps you plan and select the required items. If you are not familiar with alarm system installation, we recommend you buy the guide, "Installing Home and Auto Security Systems" (Cat. No. 62-1086). Your local Radio Shack store carries additional security items you can use with, or in addition to, the Invisible Beam Entry Alert. WARNING: Home security systems require a permit in some areas. Check with your local law enforcement agency before you install your systems. HOW THE ENTRY ALERT WORKS The Entry Alert includes a main unit and a reflector. The main unit sends out an invisible beam of infrared light which bounces off the reflector and returns to the main unit (if both units are aligned correctly). If anything moves through the beam and interrupts its path, the Entry Alert triggers the built-in chime and counter (and 3-digit LED display), or activates a device connected to the Normally Open (N.O.) or Normally Closed (N.C.) terminals. The connected device can be an alarm sounding device, telephone dialer, or external alarm system. (CS 10/23/95)
