Plug'n Power Remote Controller/Timer (610-2670) Clock/Timer Operation Faxback Doc. # 18453 SETTING THE CLOCK It is necessary to accurately set the clock to assure proper timer operation. 1. Plug the controller/timer into a standard AC outlet. The clock display flashes. 2. Set the mode switch to CLOCK SET. 3. Press TIME (^) to advance the time (v) to move the time backward. The PM indicator lights for p.m. times and turns off for a.m. times. Be sure to correctly set a.m. or p.m. Press the buttons momentarily to change the time one minute at a time. Press and hold the buttons to change the time rapidly. 4. When the correct time is displayed, set the mode switch to RUN. INSTALLING THE BACKUP BATTERY The backup battery protects the clock and timer settings when the unit is unplugged or during a power failure. Install it after you plug in the controller/timer. 1. Open the battery compartment cover on the bottom of the unit. 2. Snap the battery contact onto a 9-volt battery such as Radio Shack Cat. No. 23-583. 3. Replace the battery compartment cover. The BATTERY SENTINEL indicator lights when the battery is not installed or when the battery is weak and should be replaced. If there is a power failure when no battery is installed or when the battery is too weak, the display flashes and the clock and timer settings are lost when power is restored. SETTING AUTOMATIC ON/OFF TIMES CAUTION: Test the entire system using manual operation procedures before using timer operation. This procedure lets you set the controller/timer to automatically turn a module (or a group of modules with the same unit code) on or off at the same time every day. For example, you can set the timer to turn on the modules that you set to unit code 2 at 12:45 p.m. every day. You can set two ON times and two OFF times for each of four unit codes (1-4 or 5-8). However, you cannot use the timer with both ranges of units codes (1-4 and 5-8) at the same time. 1. Set the mode switch to PROG SET. The display changes to the timer mode. 2. Use the TIME (^) or (v) button to set the timer to the time you want to turn on or turn off a module (or group of modules) with a particular unit code. The PM indicator lights for p.m. times and turns off for a.m. times. Be sure to correctly set a.m. or p.m. Press the TIM buttons momentarily to change the time one minute at a time. Press and hold the buttons to change the time rapidly. 3. Set the SELECTOR switch for the range (1-4 or 5-8) of unit code you want to control with the timer. If you change the setting, timer events you set for unit code 1 affect unit code 5, unit code 2 events affect unit code 6 and so on. It is best to use the same unit code range for all of your timer events. 4. Press the ON or OFF button for the unit code you want to control with the timer. 5. Repeat steps 2 and 4 to program another timer event. If you want to program modules with a different unit code to turn ON or OFF at the same time as the previous event, simply repeat steps 3 and 4 for the new unit code, but do not change the timer setting. NOTE: Setting the mode switch to CLOCK SET and the WAKE UP switch to OUT temporarily suspends timer activation of modules with unit codes of 1 or 5, without clearing the timer memory. If 18:88 appears on the display, the memory for the selected unit code is full. You must clear one of the currently stored events before entering a new one. SETTING THE WAKE UP ALARM When you set the timer to turn on a module with a unit code of 1 or 5, you can also set an alarm buzzer to sound at the same time. To do this, set the WAKE UP switch to the IN position. To deactivate the wake-up function set the WAKE UP switch to OUT. While the buzzer is sounding, pressing any button activates a 10-minute snooze feature. The buzzer turns off and sounds again in 10 minutes. The buzzer automatically turns off after it sounds for 10 minutes. The devices activated by unit code 1 or 5 remain on unless you press the OFF button for unit code 1 or 5, or unless another timer event turns them off. On weekends or holidays, you can temporarily disable the wake-up function and timer events for unit codes 1 or 5 by setting the mode switch to CLOCK SET and WAKE UP to OUT. SETTING ONE-TIME TIMER EVENTS If you press ONCE within 4 seconds of pressing the unit code button when setting a timer event, the timer event activates one time within the next 24 hours and is cleared from the timer's memory. A one-time event counts as one of the events in the timer's memory capacity (two ON times and two OFF times for each of the unit codes in the range you select). USING THE SECURITY MODE The security mode varies the ON or OFF times of timer events to give your home a lived-in look when you are away. For example, if you set a timer event for 7:30 p.m. and activate the security mode, the timer event occurs at 7:30 p.m. the first day. Every day after that, the timer event occurs at different times between 7:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. To activate the security mode, press SECURITY within four seconds of pressing the unit code button when setting the timer event. USING THE SLEEP FUNCTION The sleep mode lets you set a module (or group of modules) with the same unit code to turn ON or OF after the length of time you select (in 15 minute increments). You can simultaneously activate up to two sleep times. Using the Sleep Mode to Turn Off a Module Press the ON rocker for the unit code you want to control. Then, within 4 seconds, press SLEEP once for each 15 minutes you want the module(s) to remain ON before automatically turning OFF (one press=15 minutes, two=30 minutes, three=45 minutes, and so on). Using the Sleep Mode to Turn On a Module Press the OFF rocker for the unit code you want to control. Then, within 4 seconds, press SLEEP once for each 15 minutes you want the module(s) to remain OFF before automatically turning ON. NOTES: You cannot cancel a sleep time once it is set. If you don't want to wait for a sleep time to elapse, you can manually turn a light or appliance on or off using the controller's ON or OFF rocker keys while a sleep time is set. If you set a sleep time, and then press SLEEP again, you will add 15 minutes to te sleep time you previously set. REVIEWING TIMER EVENTS You can check the set timer events as follows: 1. Set the mode switch to PROG REVIEW. 2. Press the designed ON or OFF unit code button. The set time for that unit code appears on the display. Press the button again to display a second timer event that you set for the same unit code. To clear a timer event from memory, press CLEAR while the event's time appears on the display.
