Plug'n Power Home Control Interface (610-2617) Software Faxback Doc. # 19265 PREPARING THE DISK Before using the X-10 Home Control disk you will first need to transfer DOS to it (PREPARE it). You only do this ONCE. a. Insert a copy of DOS 2.0 or 2.1 into drive A. b. Turn the computer on. c. Wait about 30 seconds for the prompt asking you to enter the New Date. Enter the new date in the format shown e.g. 2-15-99, then press RETURN. d. You are then asked to enter the New Time. Enter this in the format shown e.g. 15:45, then press RETURN. e. Insert the X-10 Home Control program disk into drive B. f. Type SYS B: then press RETURN. g. Type COPY COMMAND.COM B: Then press RETURN. The message "1 FILE COPIED" will appear. The DOS transfer is now complete. The X-10 Home Control disk is "not" copy protected. It is recommended that you make back-up copies of the "prepared" disk and keep them in a safe place. Remove the DOS disk from drive A. Remove the X-10 Home Control disk from drive B and place it in drive A. If the computer is off, just power it on with the disk in drive A. If the computer is on and in DOS, type X10 and press RETURN to run the program. NOTE: If you are using DOS 3.X, you will need to format a double sided disk and copy the DOS and all the files from the X-10 Home Control disk to the double sided, formatted disk. SET TIME When you load the program the screen shows you the time stored in the interface. If the interface has been unplugged (with no battery fitted), the time will be wrong. In this case type in the correct time in the following format - Day of the Week and Time of Day and press RETURN. If the time displayed is correct, just accept it by pressing RETURN. If you don't change the time the screen shows FRIDAY 7:30 PM. If however, you do change the time, the new time will be stored in the interface and the program will then ask you if you want to change the BASE HOUSECODE, see below. CHANGE BASE HOUSECODE If you change the time when you first load the program, you will then be asked if you want to change the BASE HOUSECODE. The Base Housecode is the Housecode on which the "Rocker Keys" on the interface operate. This will normally be "A" when you first power up the interface. You may wish to leave it set to "A" if you have tested your Modules to operate manually from the keys on the interface (so you don't have to change the codes on your Modules). However, if you do wish to change the BASE HOUSECODE select [Y}es. You are then warned that changing the BASE HOUSECODE will erase all the information in the Interface, but you presumably don't have anything programmed at this point, so continue with the change and enter the letter for the new Housecode. The original screen sill then be displayed. NOTE: This is the only way you can change the BASE HOUSECODE i.e. by re-loading the program. At this point for further instructions refer to 610-2617W, "Lighthouse for Windows" Faxback Documents. NOTE: Where the Lighthouse refers to using the mouse to click on icons use the UP, DOWN, LEFT, and RIGHT cursor keys to move the pointer. . To select INSTALL - press . To select ERASE - press . To select REVIEW - press .* To select FILES - press . NOTE: What is referred to as SCHEDULES in the Lighthouse for Windows is referred to as GROUPING in this version. Once in the Review mode you can use the UP and DOWN cursor keys while holding down the SHIFT key, to scroll through the programmed events. EXITING THE PROGRAM When you have installed all Modules, set all desired times and are ready to leave the program, select . This will take you to a blank screen displaying the DOS prompt. You may then turn off the computer or use it for another application. You may disconnect the Interface from the computer if you wish (you must of course leave the Interface plugged into a 120 volt AC outlet to control your home). If you installed a 9 volt alkaline battery in your Interface, you may unplug it to move it to another room in your house. All timed events and Module information will be stored in the Interface which will control your home automatically and will only need to be re-connected to the computer to make changes to timed events or to install more Modules. When you leave the program by selecting EXIT, the names and locations of the Modules you have installed are automatically stored on the disk as a file called X10.DAT. This file is reloaded the next time you load the program. The timed events stored in the Interface are also "uploaded" at this time. You may however, before exiting the program, wish to first save you schedule of events to disk. Selecting FILES lets you save the names and location and timed events as a disk file. This will enable you to reload your schedule into the Interface if it is lost due to a power outage with no battery in the Interface. You may also wish to have different schedules for different times of the year. (CS 1/3/96)
