Wireless Remote Control Center (610-2676B) Additional Modules Faxback Doc. # 19622 SETTING UP THE MODULES (Not Included) The following are the types of plug `n power modules available from Radio Shack. We include a brief description of each type here, but be sure to read and follow the instructions that come with each module. Other types of modules are available. If you have special plug `n power needs, ask for assistance at your local Radio Shack store. APPLIANCE MODULES (Cat. No. 610-2681) - These modules are designed to control small appliances that draw up to 500 watts of power and have a two-prong, polarized AC plug. You can also use these modules to control resistive-load motors rated at 15 amps, 1/3 horsepower. Appliance modules are not affected by the controller's ALL LIGHTS ON command; this helps prevent accidental activation of an appliance. Not for use with fluorescent lights. You can use appliance modules to control up to 500 watts of incandescent lighting, but the lights won't respond to the ALL LIGHTS ON command. UNIVERSAL APPLIANCE MODULES (Cat. No. 610-2684) - Universal appliance modules are the same as appliance modules. However, the universal modules provide connections for appliances that have 3-prong, grounded plugs. You must plug these modules into 3-prong AC outlets. Not for use with fluorescent lights. LAMP DIMMER MODULES (Cat. No. 610-2682) - As the name implies, these modules are designed to control lamps, and you can dim the connected lamps from the controller. You can connect up to 300 watts of incandescent lighting to these modules. Not for use with fluorescent lights. The lamp dimmer modules respond to the controller's ALL LIGHTS ON command. Use the modules only for lighting devices. Some devices might be damaged by use of the dimmer circuit. Do not use this type of module with light fixtures that have built-in dimmers. WALL SWITCH MODULES (Cat. No. 610-2683) - These modules replace an existing wall switch. You can control up to 500 watts of incandescent lighting with one of these modules, and they also allow you to manually control the lights. Wall switch modules respond to the controller's ALL LIGHTS ON command. For fluorescent lighting, you can use the Fixture Relay Module (Cat. No. 610-6375 CMC) mounted at the fixture or the Wall Switch Receiver (Cat. No. 610-6291 CMC). Do not use Lamp Dimmer or 3-Way Wall Switch modules with fluorescent lighting. 3-WAY WALL SWITCH MODULES (Cat. No. 610-2686) - These modules are similar to the wall switch modules, except that they are designed to control a light that is currently controlled by two different wall switches. The 3-way modules come with a companion switch to replace the second existing switch. The 3-way switch modules respond to the controller's ALL LIGHTS ON command and can control up to 500 watts of incandescent lighting. Of course, you also have manual control of the switches. Do not use Lamp Dimmer or 3-Way Wall Switch modules with fluorescent lighting. WALL OUTLET MODULES (Cat. No. 610-2685) - These modules completely replace existing wall outlets, but you control only one of the module's receptacles from your controller. The other receptacle is always on. You can connect appliances that draw a total of up to 1800 watts to an outlet module. Because you might use an outlet module to control appliances, these modules do not respond to the controller's ALL LIGHTS ON command. CAUTIONS: Do not use a Wall Outlet Module to replace an outlet that is controlled by a wall switch. You will lost control of the module if the wall switch is inadvertently turned off. The switch and outlet modules require direct connection to your house wiring. If you are not familiar with typical house wiring installations, we suggest that you have these types of modules professionally installed. In any case, be sure that the electricity is turned off at the circuit breaker while you are installing one of these modules. Low-voltage electricity flows through the circuit controlled by a wall switch module even when the switch is off. This is necessary for proper operation of the wall switch module. You can completely turn off the electricity by setting the wall switch module's "disable" switch to off (left). SETTING THE MODULE'S CODES Set the house code dials on all the modules you wish the Wireless Remote Control Center to control, to the same letter as you set on the control center module and remote control (A through P). Set the unit code dial on each module to a number between 1 and 8 if you set the selector switches on the control center to 1-8 or to a number between 9 and 16 if you set the selector switches to 9-16. CONNECTING LIGHTS OR APPLIANCES TO THE MODULES After setting the desired house and unit codes on the module(s), place the supplied labels in the boxes next to the buttons on the remote control to remind you what each button controls. Set the power switch on the light or appliance to the on position. Then, plug the light or appliance into the module, and plug the module into an outlet. Follow the procedure in "Controlling Additional Modules,"below to test each module. See "Troubleshooting," Faxback Doc.# 19623. if your system does not work properly. CONTROLLING ADDITIONAL MODULES 1. Set the remote control's slide switch to the group of 8 modules you want to control (1-8 or 9-16). Set the control center module's slide switch to the same position (1-8 or 9-16). If you set both slide switches to position 1-8, the buttons on the remote control will control modules set to 1 through 8 (button 1 also controls the control center module). If you set both slide switches to position 9-16, the buttons on the remote control will control modules set to 9 through 16 (button 9 also controls the control center module). The label on the remote control is labeled with numbers 1 through 8. If you set the slide switches to control modules 9 through 16, you can flip the label over. It is numbered 9 through 16 on the other side. 2. Install additional plug'n power modules (sold separately) following the instructions included with them. CAUTION: Be sure to turn off the power at the main circuit breaker panel before installing Wall Switch Modules or Wall Outlet Modules. 3. Set the house code dial on all your plug'n power modules to the same letter as you set on the remote control module. 4. Set the unit code dial on your plug'n power modules to a number between 1 or 8 (or 9 and 16 if you set the selector switches on the Wireless Remote Control Center to 9-16). 5. To turn on or off the plug'n power modules press the corresponding button on the remote control for modules set to that unit code. The first button on the remote control always controls the control center module, and all 8 buttons will control other plug'n power modules set to codes 1 through 8 (or 9 through 16). DIMMING OR BRIGHTENING LIGHTS CONNECTED TO MODULES Turn the module by on pressing and releasing the button on the remote control that corresponds to the module's unit code. Then press /\ or the \/ button on the remote control to dim or brighten the light. Hold the button down until the desired brightness level is reaches. NOTE: You cannot dim/brighten the lamp connected to the control center module because it only turns the lamp/appliance on and off. LOCAL CONTROL OF MODULES Even though your lights and appliances are connected to plug'n power modules, you can still turn most of them on manually. For most products, simply turn their power switch off and back on again. For three-way lamps, you might have to turn the lamp's switch several times before the light turns on. You cannot manually turn on instant-on TVs or remote controlled TVs that are connected to plug'n power modules. You always have manual control of Wall Switch Modules by simply using their on/off buttons. (CS 1/11/96)
