Vehicle Alarm System (490-0712) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 31506 SETTING THE SECURITY CODE The security code helps eliminate false triggering by similar systems. Follow these steps to set the security code for the control center and the two supplied remote transmitters. 1. Remove the rubber grommet covering the dip switches on the back of the control center. 2. Use the supplied alignment tool to set the dip switches to any +, 0, and - combination. NOTE: Do not set all the switches to just one position; for example, do not set all the switches to 0. 3. Remove the screw on the back of each remote transmitter and lift off the back of the transmitter. 4. Set both transmitters' dip switches to the same combination you used for the control center. 5. Replace the back of each transmitter and secure it using the screw. 6. Replace the rubber grommet covering the dip switches. To purchase an additional or replacement remote transmitter, contact your local Radio Shack store. SETTING THE MOTION SENSOR'S SENSITIVITY The alarm system's motion sensor detects vibrations. Follow these steps to adjust the sensor's sensitivity. 1. Arm the system and determine the sensitivity by pushing or rocking the vehicle with the same pressure you want to trigger the alarm. The alarm sounds when you exceed the alarm's sensitivity. Disarm the system to silence the alarm (see "Operations"). 2. Remove the rubber grommet covering the sensitivity control on the back of the control center. 3. Use the supplied alignment tool to decrease the sensor's sensitivity by turning the control counterclockwise so strong vibrations are required to set off the alarm. Or, turn the control clockwise to increase the sensitivity so even slight vibrations sound the alarm. 4. Replace the rubber grommet covering the sensitivity control. Experiment with different settings until the alarm operates how you want it to. TESTING THE SYSTEM 1. Turn off the vehicle's ignition. 2. Step out of the vehicle, and close all doors, the hood, and the trunk. 3. Test the following using the procedures in "Operation" (Faxback Doc. # 31505). Arming and Disarming Sounding the Panic Alarm (EB3/22/96)
