Vehicle Alarm System (490-0772) System Setup Faxback Doc. # 32192 TEACHING THE CONTROL CENTER THE REMOTE CODE Before you operate your alarm system, you must teach the control center which remote transmitters to recognize. This prevents false triggering when remote controls from different car alarms are used nearby. Follow these steps to teach the control center which two remotes to respond to. 1. Remove the three screws on the control center's back cover, then remove the cover. 2. Press LEARNING on the control center. The siren beeps once. 3. Press any button on the remote transmitter. The siren beeps twice. 4. Repeat Steps 2 and 3 for the additional remote transmitter. 5. Replace the control center's back cover and secure it with the three screws. NOTES: Each remote transmitter has a different built-in security code. If you use both of the supplied remote transmitters, you must teach the control center both remote codes in the same process. Each time you start this process, previous codes are wiped out. You might need to reteach the remote codes to the control center if power is lost or disconnected for more than 15 seconds. To purchase a replacement remote transmitter, contact your local Radio Shack store. SETTING THE MOTION SENSOR'S SENSITIVITY The alarm system's motion sensor detects vibrations. Follow these steps to set the motion sensor's sensitivity. IMPORTANT: The following procedure makes your alarm system sound. Either do this in a remote area where you will not disturb others or let neighbors know you are testing your alarm. 1. Remove the three screws and remove the control center's back cover. 2. Arm the system (see "Arming the System") and determine its sensitivity by pushing or rocking the vehicle. The alarm sounds when the movement exceeds the alarm's sensitivity. 3. Disarm the system to silence the alarm (see "Disarming the System"). 4. To adjust the sensitivity, use the supplied plastic tool or a screwdriver to turn the control counterclockwise so stronger vibrations are required to set off the alarm. Or, turn the control clockwise to increase the sensitivity so even slight vibrations sound the alarm. Experiment with different settings until the alarm operates at the level you want it to. NOTE: When set all the way to MIN, the alarm does not respond to the shock sensor at all. 5. Replace the control center's back cover and secure it with the three screws. TESTING THE SYSTEM 1. Turn the vehicle's ignition on then off. 2. Step out of the vehicle, and close all doors, the hood, and the trunk. 3. Test the following alarm functions using the procedures described in "Operation" (Faxback Doc. # 32193). Automatic Arming and Disarming Remote Arming and Disarming Panic Alarm Exit and Entry Delays NOTE: You should repeat this test procedure any time you disconnect or replace your vehicle's battery so you can be sure your alarm system is operating properly.
