Vehicle Alarm System (490-0772) Operation Faxback Doc. # 32193 WHAT TRIGGERS THE ALARM The alarm's siren is triggered in these ways: If the system was remotely armed and a door is opened, then the alarm sound instantly. If ARM and DISARM are pressed at the same time on the transmitter, the panic alarm sounds instantly. If the motion sensor detects vibrations or the current sensor detects current drain, the siren sounds after 12 seconds if the system was automatically armed or sounds instantly if the system was remotely armed. The alarm sounds for 90 seconds or until the disarm the system. After the 90 seconds alarm, the system resets and rearms. TURNING THE VALET FEATURE ON AND OFF The valet feature is normally off, so the system automatically arms and the starter is disabled when you leave the vehicle. However, you might not want the system to automatically arm when you valet park or put it in a repair shop. To turn on the valet feature, press VALET on the remote transmitter. The siren beeps four times. The green indicator flashes slowly and the system does not arm. To turn off the valet feature, press VALET on the remote transmitter again. The siren beeps twice. ARMING THE SYSTEM NOTE: After automatic or remote arming, the starter is disabled until you turn the valet feature on, or disarm the system and turn the ignition key. Automatic Arming If the valet feature is turned off, the system automatically arms 30 seconds after you turn off the ignition. The red indicator flashes rapidly during the exit delay, and lights steadily when the system arms. NOTES: If the motion sensor detects a vibration during the 30-second exit delay (such as from a door opening or closing), the system restarts the 30-second delay. Remote Arming To arm the system from outside the vehicle, press ARM on the transmitter. The siren beeps once and the red indicator lights steadily to indicate that the system is armed. NOTE: The transmitter has a maximum range of about 100 feet (30 meters). The actual range depends on your installation, the location of nearby metal objects, and the strength of the remote transmitter's battery. DISARMING THE SYSTEM How you disarm the system depends on how you armed it. Automatic Disarming If the motion sensor detects a vibration after automatic arming, the system begins a 12-second entry delay. During this delay the system in either of two ways: Turn on the ignition. Press DISARM on the transmitter with the ignition off. The alarm beeps twice if the alarm has not been triggered, or beeps six times if the alarm sounded in your absence. Remote Disarming If you armed the system with the remote transmitter, you must disarm it from outside the vehicle to avoid sounding the alarm. Press DISARM on the transmitter. The siren beeps twice if the alarm has not been triggered, or beeps six times if the alarm sounded in your absence. NOTE: The system ignores the remote transmitter when the ignition is turned on. SOUNDING THE PANIC ALARM This feature lets you summon help in case of an emergency. To sound the panic alarm, press ARM and DISARM on the remote transmitter at the same time. The siren immediately sounds, time. The siren immediately sounds, regardless of whether the system is armed or disarmed. NOTE: The panic alarm does not sound when the ignition is turned on or set to the accessory (ACC) position.
