Two-Zone Remote Keypad Burglar Alarm Control Center (490-0451) Batteries Faxback Doc. # 33421 INSTALLING THE BACKUP BATTERIES The alarm center's backup batteries power the alarm system during an AC power failure. When AC power is restored, the alarm center automatically recharges the batteries. NOTE: The alarm system works differently during an AC power failure. See "Low Power Mode" on Faxback Doc. # 33424. You need two rechargeable 6-volt batteries (such as Cat. No. 230-0181) to power the alarm center during an AC power failure. Together, the batteries are rated at 12V at 2.5 Ah. CAUTIONS: Use only the recommended batteries in the alarm center. The recommended batteries contain high current when charged. Do not short circuit their positive (+) and negative (-) terminals with any metal object. Avoid casual handling. If the AC adapter is connected to the alarm center, unplug it from the AC outlet before installing or replacing the batteries. NOTE: Your alarm center uses rechargeable batteries. At the end of the batteries' useful life, they must be recycled or disposed of properly. Contact your local, county, or state hazardous waste management authorities for information on recycling or disposal programs in your area. Some options that might be available are: municipal curbside collection, drop-off boxes at retailers, recycling collection centers, and mail-back programs. 1. Connect the supplied battery jumper to the battery terminals, connecting the (+) and (-) terminals. 2. Undo the buckle on the battery strap inside the alarm center, then slide both batteries inside the alarm center. 3. Slide the loose end of the battery strap back through the buckle and pull it tight to secure the batteries. STOP! do not connect the batteries to the alarm center yet. You will connect them while testing the alarm system. (SP/EB 5/25/96)
