Two-Zone Remote Keypad Burglar Alarm Control Center
(490-0451) Complete and Test Faxback Doc. # 33423

COMPLETING AND TESTING THE INSTALLATION

Now you can finish installing your alarm system and test it to be sure that
it works. This will also help you understand its operation.

CAUTIONS: Always notify local authorities, your neighbors and other people
in your home or office before you test your alarm system. In
some areas, testing any part of your alarm system might be
considered a false alarm, which might be illegal in your area.
Check the regulations in your area.

If you connected an automatic telephone dialer to the alarm
center, notify the people and/or security company whose numbers
the device will call and get their prior consent before you test
your alarm system. Some security companies charge a fee for
           test calls.

Follow these steps.

1. Double-check all steps in "Installing the System" on Faxback Doc.
    # 33420 to make sure you connected everything correctly.

2. Connect a test lamp (such as Cat. No. 272-1141) to Terminals 15 and 16
on the alarm center. This lamp lets you see if the alarm siren and/or
security strobe will sound during the test without producing a false
    alarm.

CAUTION: You must use a lamp that uses 12 volts and is rated at 1A or
less. The recommended lamp meets these specifications. Using a
lamp that does not meet these specifications could damage the
          alarm center or the lamp.

3. Plug the AC adapter into a standard AC outlet.

CAUTION: To prevent electric shock or fire hazard use only the supplied
AC adapter to power the alarm center.

The ARM and AC POWER indicators on the alarm center should light, the
BATT indicator should flash, and the LOOP indicator should light or
flash, and the LOOP indicator should light or flash to indicate an exit
delay (since the alarm system is in the process of arming). If they
light or flash, go to Step 4.

If they do not light or flash, unplug the AC adapter and check each of
    the following.

    a. Make sure the fuse inside the alarm center is not blown. If it is,
replace it (see "Replacing the Fuse" on Faxback Doc. # 33428) and
        repeat this step.

    b. Make sure the AC adapter's wires are connected correctly to
Terminals 17 and 18. If they are not, connect them correctly (see
"Connecting AC Power" on Faxback Doc. # 33422) and repeat this
        step.

    c. Make sure the AC outlet has AC power. If it does not, restore AC
        power and repeat this step.

    d. Make sure RESET on the AC adapter is not popped out (indicating an
overload). If it is, correct the overload, press RESET back inside
the AC adapter until it stops (see "Resetting the AC Adapter's
Circuit Breaker" on Faxback Doc. # 33428), and repeat this step.

4. Unplug the AC adapter.

5. If you installed the recommended backup batteries, connect the black
battery lead inside the alarm center to the unused negative (-)
terminal of one battery then connect the red battery lead to the unused
positive (+) terminal of the other battery.

CAUTION: Make sure the batteries are connected correctly inside the
alarm center. Improper installation might cause the fuse
inside the alarm center to blow, prevent the alarm system
from operating during an AC power failure, and damage the
              batteries and the alarm system.

6. Plug in the AC adapter. The AC POWER indicator on the alarm center
lights. The LOOP indicator should light or flash. If the LOOP
indicator lights or flashes, go to Step 8.

If the ZONE (LOOP) indicator does not light or flash, one or more of the
loops of sensors is not connected properly, or one or more of the
sensors has been violated. Check each of the following.

    a. Make sure all sensors are in their normal states (either normally
open or normally closed) on the same loop. If they are not, connect
them correctly (see "Connecting Sensors into Loops" on Faxback Doc.
        # 33422 and "Connecting Loops of Sensors to the Alarm Center" on
        Faxback Doc. # 33422).

    b. If the ZONE (LOOP) indicator is still off, check the loops as
        follows:

        Normally Open Loops:

Disconnect the wires from Terminals 1 and 5. If the ZONE (LOOP)
indicator lights, one of the normally open loops (either in the
instant zone or delayed zone) is not wired correctly. Reconnect the
wires for each group in each loop separately to determine which loop
        is not wired correctly.

        Normally Closed Loops:

Connect a short piece of wire between Terminals 2 and 3, then
connect another between Terminals 3 and 4. If the ZONE (LOOP)
indicator lights, one of the normally closed loops (either in the
instant zone or delayed zone) is not wired correctly.

NOTE: If you are using a 49-484 remote keypad with the alarm
center, Zone 1 on the keypad displays the status of both the
N.O. and N.C. loops in the instant zone, and ZONE 2 displays
the status of both loops in the delayed zone. If ZONE 1 and
ZONE 2 are on, both the instant and delayed zones are OK.

7. Arm the alarm center by using any connected keypad to enter the pass
code (1234 is the default pass code). Make sure the ARM indicator
    is on.

NEXT: You cannot arm the alarm center if any loops remain violated. If
any of the loops were violated when the alarm system was turned
on, the ARM indicator will be off, indicating that the alarm
center did not arm because of the loop violation.

8. Check the loops installed in the Delayed Zone.

    a. Turn DELAY TIME ADJ EXIT and DELAY TIME ADJ ENTRY fully clockwise
        to set them to maximum.

    b. Violate any sensor installed in the Delayed Zone.

The pre-alarm sounder connected to Terminals 13 and 14 begins to
sound and continues sounding for 45 seconds during the entry delay
time. The ZONE (LOOP) indicator starts blinking and continues
blinking during the entry delay time.

After the entry delay time expires, the lamp you connected to
Terminals 15 and 16 (alarm siren and light) lights for 5 minutes,
and the ARM indicator starts blinking.

    c. Disarm the alarm system by entering 1234 (the default pass code)
then pressing # on a 490-0452 keypad or pressing CANCEL on a
490-0484 keypad until the ARM indicator stops blinking.

    d. Reset the sensor you violated in Step b above. The ZONE (LOOP)
        indicator lights.

9. Arm the alarm center. Make sure the ARM indicator is on.

10. Check the loops installed in the Instant Zone.

    a. Violate any sensor installed in the Instant Zone. The ZONE (LOOP)
indicator turns off, the ARM indicator blinks, and the lamp you
connected to Terminals 15 and 16 (alarm siren and light) lights for
        5 minutes.

    b. Disarm the alarm system by entering 1234, then pressing # on a
490-0452 keypad or pressing CANCEL on a 490-0484 keypad until the
        ARM indicator stops blinking.

    c. Reset the sensor you violated in Step a.

11. Check the sensors installed in the Panic/Tamper Zone.

    a. Disarm the alarm system by entering 1234, then violate any sensor
installed in the Panic/Tamper Zone. The ZONE (LOOP) indicator turns
off, the alarm center arms, the ARM indicator blinks, and the lamp
you connected to Terminals 15 and 16 (alarm siren and light) lights for
        5 minutes.

    b. Reset the sensor you violated in Step a above, then disarm the
        alarm system.

    c. Test the panic function of each installed remote keypad either by
pressing and holding down # and * (for the supplied keypad) or
pressing and holding down both E keys (for the 490-0484 remote
keypad). The alarm center arms, the ARM indicator blinks, and the
lamp you connected to Terminals 15 and 16 (alarm siren and light)
        lights for 5 minutes.

12. Press and hold down BELL TEST on the alarm center. The lamp you
connected to Terminals 15 and 16 (alarm siren and light) lights as
long as you press BELL TEST.

13. Press BATT TEST on the alarm center. If the BATT indicator on the
alarm center does not light, the backup batteries are OK.

If the BATT indicator flashes, check the following:

Check the fuse on the alarm center. If it is blown, see "Replacing
the Fuse" on Faxback Doc. # 33428 and repeat this step.

The backup batteries might have insufficient power. Check the
battery connections. If the connections are OK, the batteries will
be automatically recharged. If they do not recharge, replace them
        promptly.

14. Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the screw from the center of the
AC outlet and discard the screw. Then attach the AC adapter to the AC
outlet using the attached screw to secure it and discourage tampering.

15. Disconnect the lamp from Terminals 15 and 16, then connect the alarm
    siren's and/or light's negative (-) wire(s) to Terminal 15 and connect
    the positive (+) wire(s) to Terminal 16.

Your security system is ready to use!
