Two-Zone Remote Keypad Burglar Alarm Control Center (490-0451) Status Tests Faxback Doc. # 33426 TESTING THE SYSTEM STATUS TESTING THE BATTERIES Although the alarm center automatically tests the backup batteries each time you arm and disarm the alarm system and about once per hour, you can also press BATT TEST on the alarm center to test the batteries at any time. You should test the backup batteries this way at least once per week. NOTE: If you installed new backup batteries in the alarm system, wait for about 24 hours until the alarm system changes them before you press BATT TEST to manually test them. While the batteries are charging, the BATT indicator flashes. When the batteries are charged, the BATT indicator goes off. When you press and release BAT TEST, the BATT indicator on the alarm center (and the BATTERY indicator on the 490-484 remote keypad) shows the condition of the backup batteries. BATT Indicator Meaning Lit AC power is low or off. Check the AC adapter and AC power. Not Lit The batteries are fully charged. Flashing The batteries have insufficient power due to one or more of the following reasons: No batteries installed Faulty battery connection Batteries are low The fuse inside the alarm center is blown (see "Replacing the Fuse" on Faxback Doc. # 33428). Batteries are defective NOTE: If you connected a 49-484 remote keypad, you can also test the batteries by disarming the alarm system, then pressing DELAY. TESTING THE ALARM SIREN AND/ OR LIGHTS CAUTION: Always notify local authorities, your neighbors, and other people in your home or office before you test your alarm system. In some areas, testing any part of your alarm system might be considered a false alarm, which might be illegal in your area. Check your local regulations. You can press and hold down BELL TEST of the alarm center to test the alarm siren and/or lights connected to Terminals 15 and 16. You should test these devices at least once a week. NOTES: BELL TEST is a momentary contact switch. Devices connected to Terminals 15 and 16 sound for as long as you hold down BELL TEST. BELL TEST activates only the devices connected to Terminals 15 and 16, not the entire alarm system. If you connected a 49-484 remote keypad, you can also test the devices connected to Terminals 15 and 16 by disarming the alarm system, then pressing DELAY. The devices momentarily sound, regardless of how long you hold down DELAY. If the test lamp (see "Completing and Testing the installation" on Faxback Doc. # 33423) or alarm/light does not work when you press BELL TEST, check the devices and their wiring. CHECKING THE INDICATORS LOOP/ZONE The LOOP indicator on the remote keypad and the ZONE indicator on the alarm center indicate the condition of the loops or sensors in all zones in the alarm system. LOOP/ZONE Meaning Indicator Lit No sensors are violated. Not Lit One or more sensors in one or more loops has been violated. This might indicate that a door or window has been left open. Flashing The entry or exit delay is in progress. NOTE: If the LOOP indicator on the remote keypad and the ZONE indicator on the alarm center are not lit, you must find the violated sensor and reset it before you can arm the alarm system. ARM The ARM indicator on the remote keypad and alarm center indicates if the alarm center is armed and the arm status. NOTE: This indicator is labeled ARMED on the 49-484 remote keypad. ARM Indicator Meaning Lit The alarm system is armed. Not Lit The alarm system is disarmed. Flashing One or more sensors in one or more loops has been violated and caused an alarm. This might indicate that a door or window has been left open. NOTE: When a sensor has been violated, ARM will continue to flash, even if the siren and/or light has stopped sounding, until you press #. AC POWER The AC POWER indicator on the alarm center indicates the status of the CD power being supplied to the alarm center. AC POWER Indicator Meaning Lit AC power is normal Flickering or AC power is low (less than 95 VAC). Off CHECKING THE ENTIRE SYSTEM WEEKLY You should test your alarm system each week to be sure that it works. Important: Always notify local authorities, your neighbors and other people in your home or office before you test your alarm system. In some areas, testing any part of yur alarm system (if you do not follow Step 1) might be considered a false alarm, because the alarm will sound. This might be illegal in your area. Check your local regulations. If you connected an automatic telephone dialer to the alarm center, notify the people and/or security company whose numbers the device will call and get their prior consent before you test your alarm system. Some security companies charge a fee for test calls. Follow these steps to test the system. 1. Disarm the system, disconnect the alarm siren and/or light from Terminals 15 and 16 on the alarm center, then connect the test lamp to the terminals. 2. Arm the system. The ARM and AC POWER indicators on the alarm center should be lit, and the ZONE (LOOP) indicator should light or flash. If the ZONE (LOOP) indicator lights or flashes, go to step 3. If the ZONE (LOOP) indicator does not light or flash, one or more sen- sors in the instant and/or Delayed Zones is violated or faulty. Check each sensor in each zone and reset it until the ZONE (LOOP) indicator lights. 3. Check the sensors installed in the Panic/Tamper Zone. a. Disarm the alarm system, then violate any sensor installed in the Panic/Tamper Zone. The alarm center arms, the ARM indicator blinks, and the lamp you connected to Terminals 15 and 16 (alarm siren and light) lights for 5 minutes. b. Reset the sensor you violated in Step "a" above then disarm the alarm system. c. Test the panic function of each installed remote keypad either by pressing and holding down both # and * for the supplied keypad, or pressing and holding down both E keys for the 49-484 remote keypad. The alarm center arms, the ARM indicator blinks, and the lamp you connected to Terminals 15 and 16 (alarm siren and light) lights for 5 minutes. 4. Press BATT TEST on the alarm center. If the BATT indicator on the alarm center does not light, the backup batteries are OK. If the BATT indicator flashes, check the following: Check the fuse on the alarm center. If it is blown, see "Replacing Fuse" on Faxback Doc. # 33428 and repeat this step. The backup batteries might have insufficient power. Check the battery connections. If the connections are OK, the batteries will be automatically recharged. If they do not recharge, replace them promptly. 5. Press and hold down BELL TEST on the alarm center. The alarm siren and or light sounds and/or lights as long as you press BELL TEST. 6. Disconnect the lamp from Terminals 15 and 16, then connect the alarm siren's and/or light's negative (-) wire(s) to Terminal 15 and connect the positive (+) wire(s) to Terminal 16. (SP/EB 5/25/96)
