Two-Zone Remote Keypad Burglar Alarm Control Center (490-0451) Care and Maintenance Faxback Doc. # 33428 CARE AND MAINTENANCE Your Radio Shack Two-Zone Remote Keypad Burglar Alarm Control Center is an example of superior design and craftsmanship. The following suggestions will help you care for the alarm center and keypad so you can enjoy them for years. Keep the alarm center and keypad dry. If either gets wet, wipe them dry immediately. Liquids might contain minerals that can corrode the electronic circuits. Use and store the alarm center and keypad only in normal temperature environments. Temperature extremes can shorten the life of electronic devices, damage batteries, and distort or melt plastic parts. Handle the alarm center and keypad gently and carefully. Dropping them can damage circuit boards and cases and can cause the alarm system to work improperly. Keep the alarm center and keypad away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature wear of parts. Wipe the alarm center and keypad with a damp cloth occasionally to keep them looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean them. Modifying or tampering with the alarm center's or keypad's components, other than as described in this Owner's Manual, can cause a malfunction and might invalidate its warranty. If your alarm center and/or keypad are not performing as they should, take them to your local Radio Shack store for assistance. REPLACING THE FUSE If the alarm center does not operate, you might need to replace the fuse with a 3-amp fast-blow fuse such as the supplied spare fuse (Cat. No. 270-1009). WARNING: Before you begin, unplug the AC adapter and disconnect the backup batteries. Follow these steps to replace the fuse. CAUTION: Fuses can fail for many reasons, including short circuits, power surges, and improper installation. Check your installation for short circuits or improper installation and correct any problems you find. Then, if the spare fuse fails after you install it, contact your local Radio Shack store. 1. Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the screw on the side of the alarm center's cover, then open the cover. 2. Pull the red ribbon inside the cover. The fuse pops out. 3. If the fuse is blown, replace it. CAUTION: Make sure you replace the fuse only with another fuse of the same type and rating. 4. Wrap the red ribbon around the new fuse, then insert the fuse into the fuse holder. 5. Close the alarm center's cover and secure the cover screw. 6. Reconnect the battery and the AC adapter. RESETTING THE AC ADAPTER's CIRCUIT BREAKER The AC adapter has a circuit breaker to protect itself from an overload. If an overload occurs, the pin labeled RESET pops out, the AC adapter stops supplying power, and the AC POWER indicator inside the alarm center turns off. WARNING: Before you reset the circuit breaker, unplug the AC adapter and disconnect the backup batteries. CAUTION: Circuit breakers can trip for many reasons, including short circuits, power surges, and improper installation. Check your installation for a short circuit or improper installation and correct any problems you find. Then reconnect the batteries and AC adapter and try to reset the AC adapter's circuit breaker. If the circuit breaker fails to reset, contact your local Radio Shack store. To reset the circuit breaker, press the pin labeled RESET back into the AC adapter until it stops. (SP/EB 5/25/96)
