DUAL-ELEMENT INFRARED MOTION SENSOR (490-0531) Coverage Faxback Doc. # 33463 COVERAGE Your Infrared Motion Sensor covers five zones. The maximum usable sensitivity of the sensor is about 40 feet (12 meters). At this maximum distance, the coverage is about 40 feet across and two feet high. Actual coverage depends on the shape of the protected area and the texture of the walls and other surfaces within the area. Movement above or below the zones is not detected. This helps prevent false alarms due to pets or small children. The sensor is more sensitive to motion across its zones and less sensitive to movement directly toward or away from the zones. AVOIDING FALSE ALARMS Because your Infrared Motion Sensor is activated by heat, it is important to choose the mounting location for the sensor with care to avoid conditions that could cause a false alarm. The most common causes of false alarms are: Sunlight shinning directly on the unit Heat sources such as radiant space heaters within a covered zone Strong drafts of air onto the sensor, (such as from a central heating vent or an air conditioner) Animals within a zone Take care to avoid areas with these hazards when placing the unit. Also, be sure to walk-test the area to be covered before activating the central alarm unit. NOTE: In some areas, false alarms are subject to fines. Be sure to check the laws in your area.
