DUAL-ELEMENT INFRARED MOTION SENSOR (490-0531) Testing Faxback Doc. # 33465 After you make all connections and double-check them, you are ready to test the unit. This section describes two tests-one to test that the sensor is registering movement and another to be sure that your sensor activates the alarm on your central alarm system. NOTE: During the following test, disarm your central alarm system. 1. With the cover removed from the Infrared Motion Sensor, be sure the LED walk-test link is installed on the two pins closest to Terminal 7 (far right) as shown in the installation. 2. Place the cover back on the motion sensor to prevent the tamper switch from being tripped. 3. Apply power to the sensor. 4. Confirm that the area protected by the sensor is clear of all people, pets, and potential problems, such as those mentioned in "AVOIDING FALSE ALARMS", on Faxback Doc. # 33463. 5. Stand within the protected area, and make four random direction walk tests. Walk at a rate of one step per second while observing the walk test lamp. Be sure the red LED lights within four steps. The sensor should operate in three out of the four random direction walk tests. If you do not obtain proper detection during this test, relocate or reaim the sensor. 6. Stand clear of the protected area. Observe the walk-test lamp for a period of 30 to 60 seconds. The lamp should not light. If it does light, the sensor is detecting a changing level of infrared energy in one or more of the detection zones. Check each zone to locate the source of the problem, and then reaim or relocate the sensor to eliminate the problem. 7. Disconnect all power to the alarm system (including back-up power). 8. Remove the cover from the motion sensor and disable the walk-test LED by removing the link as shown in the illustration. Store the link by placing it over one of the two pins. Now the walktest LED does not light-preventing an intruder from knowing whether the alarm is activated. 9. Replace the motion sensor cover. NOTE: During this test, temporarily replace your alarm sounding device with a 12 volt DC light, and disconnect any other alarm devices, such as auto-dialers. 1. Arm your central alarm system. 2. Walk in the protected area. The light you connected in place of the sounding device should come on, indicating that you have activated the alarm. 3. Disarm the system and remove the cover from the motion sensor. The light should come on to indicate that you have tripped the tamper switch. 4. Replace the cover. 5. Disarm the alarm system. 6. Reconnect all of the alarm devices, including the sounding device. Your system is now ready for normal operation. Be sure to test this unit once a year. (BR/EB 6/6/96)
