DUAL-ELEMENT INFRARED MOTION SENSOR (490-0531) Installation Faxback Doc. # 33467 INSTALLATION Locating the Sensor Use the information presented in "COVERAGE" and "AVOIDING FALSE ALARMS" when selecting a location for the Infrared Motion Sensor. Proper operation of the sensor depends primarily upon locating the unit in a suitable environment and using care when mounting it. For reliable operation, mount the sensor so that each of its detection zones terminates on a solid surface such as a wall. In some cases when pets are not a problem, you can terminate the zone on the floor by angling the sensor down. The surface where the zone terminates is used as a steady temperature reference for detecting the sudden changes in temperature evident when an intruder passes through a zone. NOTE: Detection capability can be decreased if the reference surface and the intruder's body temperature are nearly the same. Do not locate the sensor: Outdoors or in areas that have openings exposed constantly to outside elements. Where hot or cold air blows directly onto it. So that its detection zones are aimed at heating or air conditioning vents or ducts, exterior windows or curtains covering windows, exterior metal walls, refrigerators or freezer grilles, exposed light bulbs, or wood burning stoves. Mounting the Unit The mounting bracket included with your Infrared Motion Sensor lets you mount the sensor on a wall-ceiling corner (A), in a corner between two walls (B), or on a flat wall (C). The table and illustration below indicate which screw-holes to use to obtain the desired angle. (See Faxback Doc. # 33469, Fig. "B"). Surface Angle Holes Corner Horizontal C Corner 5 degrees down D Flat Wall Horizontal A Flat Wall 5 degrees down B Ceiling-Wall Corner Adjustable E To mount: 1. Using the mounting bracket as a template, mark the wall at the location of the screw holes. 2. Drill a 3/16 inch hole at each of the marked locations. 3. Push the supplied inserts into the holes. 4. Route the wiring from the central alarm to the mounting location (requires a six conductor wire). 5. Route the wiring through one of the three large openings on the back of the bracket. 6. Using the two long (25mm) screws, secure the mounting bracket to the wall. 7. Remove the outer cover from the sensor. 8. Route the wires through the opening on the upper right corner of the unit. 9. Secure the sensor to the wall bracket using the supplied 15mm screws. (BR/EB 6/6/96)
