Vehicle Alarm System (490-0722) Troubleshooting Faxback Doc. # 34950 Q: The start kill does not work. A: The new start kill switch only has four wires. The old unit has six wires. Due to this change, the control module's main power wire (red with fuse) must be connected direct to the battery. This is due to the momentary loss of power at the fuse panel or any bus line remotely connected to the fuse panel during start up. The voltage drop at the fuse panel can, in most instances, be down to less than 10V DC. The alarm is designed to work within the voltage range of 11V to 16V DC. Anytime the voltage drops below the range limit, the alarm resets itself. Consequently, the voltage drop to the control module also affects the start kill switch. When the coil is without power, the contacts inside the relay are open. Only when there is 11V DC or more on the yellow and black wires from the control module are the contacts on the start kill relay closed and only then can the vehicle be started. (IR-10/11/96)
