High-Current Power Adapter (270-1562) Operation Faxback Doc. # 19695 Your High-Current Power Adapter includes four popular-size coaxial plugs and is designed to operate most large portable tape recorders, CD players, radios, walkie-talkies and many portable TVs and VCRs that require 3,6,9, or 12 volts. FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY! BEFORE USING ADAPTER, YOU MUST SELECT THE PROPER VOLTAGE AND TIP POLARITY. VOLTAGE SELECTION 1. Determine proper output voltage setting. Check rating plate or number of batteries used in product (2 batteries = 3 volts; 4 batteries = 6 volts; 6 batteries = 9 volts; 8 batteries = 12 volts). 2. Set the voltage switch on the body of the adapter to the proper voltage. TIP POLARITY SELECTION 1. Determine proper male coaxial connector size. Determine required tip polarity. REVERSED POLARITY CAN RESULT IN PERMANENT DAMAGE TO SET. To change from POSITIVE TIP to NEGATIVE TIP: Just Rotate 1/2 Turn on the FEMALE end of connector. The Adapter may be used for POSITIVE or NEGATIVE TIP POLARITY equipment by removing and rotating the polarity reversal plug. Line up appropriate polarity mark on coaxial plug with the word "TIP" on sleeve, then force home. 2. Insert proper connector output plug into your set. Plug must fit snugly. 3. Insert large plug into vehicle lighter socket. Red LED will light to indicate proper operation. If LED fails to light, see (BELOW) FUSE REPLACEMENT. 4. Turn on equipment. If it does not operate, IMMEDIATELY disconnect and review the above four steps. FUSE REPLACEMENT To check or replace fuse, push in small metal tip at large end of Adapter and rotate counterclockwise 90 (degrees). Remove metal tip with fuse and visually inspect fuse element. If blown or if you are unsure, replace fuse. REPLACE ONLY WITH 3 AMP FAST-BLOW TYPE FUSE, available at Radio Shack. (JC 1/11/96)
