Dual Heat Soldering Gun (640-2187) Operation Faxback Doc. # 31995 WARNINGS: Arrange a secure resting place for the soldering gun so the hot tip never contacts a flammable surface, your body, or the power cord. Do not attempt to remove solder from a surface with your hands. Work only in an area that is dry and free from flammable materials. Store the soldering gun in a dry, secure place where children cannot reach it. We recommend you turn the soldering gun off for 4 minutes after each minute of use. Never tie down the trigger so the tip remains at peak temperature. Doing so will damage the tip and the soldering gun. Follow these steps to use the soldering gun. 1. Plug the soldering gun's power cord into a standard AC outlet. 2. Apply the soldering iron tip to the two surfaces of the joint to be soldered and squeeze the trigger as follows to apply heat to the joint. Squeeze the trigger to the first position for low temperature - 150 watts, 950 degrees F. Squeeze the trigger to the second position for high temperature - 230 watts, 1100 degrees F. WARNING: Do not touch the tip with your hands! NOTE: It takes about 10 seconds for the tip to reach soldering temperature. While you squeeze the trigger, the soldering gun's light illuminates the soldering joint. 3. Apply solder to the joint, not directly on the gun's tip but close to it. When the surfaces get hot, the solder begins to flow into the joint. NOTE: Do not apply too much solder to the joint. Use only enough to produce a shiny and smooth appearance. 4. Remove the tip from the joint, then release the soldering gun's trigger. Place the soldering gun in a safe position to cool. (EB 4/17/96) (LB 3/27/96)
