Dual Heat Soldering Gun (640-2187) Care and Maintenance Faxback Doc. # 31996 Your Radio Shack Dual Heat Soldering Gun is an example of superior design and craftsmanship. The following suggestions will help you care for your soldering gun so you can enjoy it for years. Keep the soldering gun dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Liquids might contain minerals that can corrode the electronic circuits. Use and store the soldering gun only in normal temperature environments. Temperature extremes can shorten the life of electronic devices, and distort or melt plastic parts. Handle the soldering gun gently and carefully. Dropping it can damage it and can cause it to work improperly. Keep the soldering gun away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature wear of parts. Modifying or tampering with the soldering gun's internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate its warranty. If your soldering gun is not performing as it should, take it to your local Radio Shack store for assistance. Changing the Soldering Tip After using the soldering gun for a long time, the tip could eventually crack or break and need replacing. You can order replacement tips at your local Radio Shack store. Loosen the four screws located in the front of the soldering gun with a screwdriver and remove the soldering tip. Then insert the new soldering tip into the receptacle at the end of the soldering gun and retighten the four screws to secure the soldering tip. Changing the Light Bulb After using the soldering iron for a long time, the light bulb could eventually burn out and need replacing. To replace the light bulb, simply turn it counterclockwise to remove it, insert a new 2.5-volt 0.3-amp bulb (available at your local Radio Shack store) and turn it clockwise to secure it.
