Model 160 Moviecorder (160-0861) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 15134 INSTALLING/REPLACING THE CLOCK/CALENDAR BATTERY A CR2025 lithium battery is provided with the camcorder. This battery powers the camcorder's clock/calendar. Follow these steps to install or replace this battery. 1. Use a coin to open the battery tray lid on the bottom of the camcorder. 2. Remove the old battery, if necessary. 3. Install a new battery into the tray with the (+) side up as indicated by the marking on the tray. 4. Insert the battery tray into the camcorder. After you install/replace the battery, set the date and time per instructions in "Using the Clock/Calendar." NOTES: The clock/calendar battery's life is approximately 1 year, but this can vary depending on the temperature and operating conditions. Do not handle this battery with any metal object. This could create a short circuit that could shorten the battery's life. INSERTING/REMOVING A CASSETTE You can open the cassette compartment to insert/remove a cassette whenever a power source is connected to the camcorder, whether or not the camcorder is turned on, except when recording. To insert a cassette, do the following: 1. Turn the viewfinder up and press EJECT on the camcorder. The cassette compartment cover automatically rises up and opens. 2. Check the tape's window to ensure there is no slack in the tape. If there is, take up the slack by turning the tape's hub with your finger. Then insert the tape with its window facing out and the spine facing up. 3. Press PUSH on the cassette compartment door until it clicks. The cassette compartment lowers and the top cover closes automatically. Do not force the compartment to close by pushing down the top cover or the tape. To remove a cassette, press EJECT, wait for the compartment door to open, and pull out the cassette. CAUTIONS: Always remove the cassette before storing the camcorder. If the compartment door is closed improperly, the camcorder's cassette-protection mechanism might eject the cassette. If this happens, press the compartment side cover once again. SETTING THE POWER SWITCH Set the power switch to CAMERA for video recording and to VCR for playback functions. When setting the power switch to CAMERA or VCR, you must press and hold the center green button. This prevents the power from accidentally being turned on. VIEWFINDER ADJUSTMENT The viewfinder eyepiece has an adjustable diopter that helps you see the viewfinder screen clearly. If you wear glasses, you might prefer to take them off before adjusting the diopter to match your eyesight. To adjust the viewfinder: 1. Set the power switch to CAMERA. 2. Set the standby switch to STANDBY. 3. Pull the viewfinder up until it clicks. 4. Turn the diopter adjustment ring until the viewfinder screen is in sharp focus. ATTACHING THE SHOULDER STRAP The shoulder strap provides a convenient way to carry the camcorder when it is not in use. You can also use it as a safety strap when you use the camcorder. Attach each end of the strap to the camcorder. NOTE: Do not swing the camcorder from the shoulder strap. ATTACHING THE LENS CAP CORD We recommend you use the lens cap cord to attach the lens cap to the camcorder so you don't lose it. Press the button on both sides of the lens cap to remove it and attach cord. (TE/all-05/05/95)
