Model 128 Moviecorder (160-0828) Camera Recording Faxback Doc. # 18406 To eliminate complicated adjustments in most situations, this camcorder has fully automatic features for focus, white balance, and shutter speed (normal setting). All you need to do is override these automatic features for special situations or effects. When the camcorder is in the fully automatic mode, a green bar appears next to the FULL AUTO switch and FULL AUTO appears in the viewfinder. The following instructions outline the basic procedures for making a camera recording. When operation the camcorder for the first time, read all the steps and the suggested detailed information before you actually begin. Then use this outline as a reminder for camera recording procedures. 1. Choose and connect a power source. See "Selecting a Power Source," Faxback Doc. # 18396. 2. Press EJECT to open the cassette compartment. Insert a standard VHS cassette, and close the compartment. See "Inserting/Removing a Cassette," Faxback Doc. # 18402, Preparing the Camcorder. 3. Slide the power switch to CAMERA so the power indicator lights. 4. Set FULL AUTO to the right so the green indicator appears. The camcorder is automatically set to the full auto mode. FULL AUTO appears in the viewfinder. If there is no cassette in the camcorder, CASSETTE appears in the viewfinder. If the cassette has its erase-protection tab broken off, PROTECT TAB appears in the viewfinder. See "Video Cassette Handling," Faxback Doc. # 18400, Special Features. 5. Place your right hand between the hand strap and the camcorder. Then adjust the hand strap so it fits tightly over your hand. If the strap is loose, the camcorder is difficult to handle. 6. Remove the lens cap by pressing the buttons on each side and hang it on the hand strap clip. 7. Turn the viewfinder to the left until you can look into it comfortably when the back of the camcorder rests in your right shoulder. Then adjust the viewfinder focus control for the sharpest picture in the viewfinder. See "Viewfinder Adjustment," Faxback Doc. # 18402, Preparing the Camcorder. 8. Point the camcorder at the desired subject, and press W or T on the power zoom control until you see the desired picture in the viewfinder. See "Power Zoom," Faxback Doc. # 18400, Special Features. 9. To begin recording, press REC START/STOP with your right thumb. During recording, >>>>> moves from left to right in the viewfinder and the record indicator on the front of the camcorder lights. 10. To stop recording, press REC START/STOP again. || - - - - - lights steadily in the viewfinder. When the tape reaches its end during recording, TAPE END appears in the viewfinder. VIEWFINDER PLAYBACK After you make a recording, you can play it back through the viewfinder. Of course, you can also press EJECT, remove the tape, and play it in any VHS VCR. 1. Slide the power switch to VCR so the power indicator lights. 2. Press REWIND to return the tape to the beginning or to the place you want to begin playback. See "Digital Counter with Memory," Faxback Doc. # 18400, Special Features. 3. Press PLAY and watch the picture in the viewfinder. See "Special VCR Functions," Faxback Doc. # , Special VCR Features. Press STOP to end playback and press EJECT to remove the cassette. Except when you are recording, you can eject a cassette any time power is connected to the camcorder, whether or not the power indicator is lighted. AUTO POWER OFF To protect the tape and conserve battery power, the camcorder releases the tape and turns itself off if you leave it in the record pause mode for more than 5 minutes. USING THE REMOTE CONTROL You can use the remote control to record yourself in a scene or play back your recording from a distance on a TV connected to the Model 128. You can use the buttons on the remote control to perform identical procedures as the buttons on the camcorder. To use the remote control, point it at the remote control receiver window on the front of the camcorder and press the desired button. NOTES: Use the remote control within the range shown above. When you zoom using the remote control, if possible, we recommend that you use a TV to monitor the picture. CAUTIONS: Be careful not to let direct sunlight or bright light from interior illumination fall onto the remote control receiver window, as this may prevent the remote control from operating properly. Be sure that there are no obstacles between the remote control and the receiver window on the camcorder. Disabling/Enabling the Remote Control The Model 128 has a remote control on/off function to help you avoid activating a function by accidentally pressing the remote control buttons while you are carrying the camcorder. To disable the remote control, do the following. 1. Slide the power switch to CAMERA so the power indicator lights. 2. Look into the viewfinder and press MENU. The menu display appears in the viewfinder. 3. Press SELECT so the pointer is next to REMOTE. 4. Press SET. ON starts flashing. Press SELECT to change the display to OFF, then press SET to store the setting. 5. Press MENU. The viewfinder display returns to normal mode. To enable the remote control, repeat above procedure to select ON in Step 4. PAUSE REMOTE CONTROL (OPTIONAL ACCESSORY) Use the convenient optional 16 ft. (5m) 16-2300 pause remote control for remote control operation outside the range of the infrared remote control. The infrared remote control only works when it is pointed at the receiver window on the front of the camcorder, but the pause remote control lets you control the camcorder from all sides. 1. Remove the terminal cover by sliding it in the direction of the arrow. Then plug the pause remote control cable into the REMOTE jack. 2. Slide the power switch to CAMERA. Check that || - - - -appears in the viewfinder. 3. Press REC/PAUSE on the pause remote control to start recording; the record indicator lights. To pause, press the button again. (LB 10/31/95)
