The zooming speed ranges from a slow speed of 15 seconds to a fast 3.5 seconds according to the pressure applied to the zoom buttons. Zoom In ("T") Zoom Out (W) Zoom slowly by lightly pressing the "T" (Telephoto) or the "W" (Wide angle) side of the power zoom switch. Zoom quickly by applying more pressure. The magnification level is displayed in the viewfinder. One-Touch Auto Fade This feature allows you to make smoother scene transitions for a professional look. Fade In: Starting a first scene with a fade in is very effective. 1. Press FADE so that "FADE" flashes on the viewfinder. 2. Press REC to start recording. The picture and sound disappear, and then will gradually fade in. Fade Out: Use to create a soft ending or (together with fade in) for a soft transition from one scene to the next. 1. While recording, press FADE so that "FADE" flashes on the viewfinder. 2. Press REC to pause recording. The picture and sound gradually fade out. Should you accidentally press the FADE button, press FADE again so that "FADE" disappears from the viewfinder. Auto Focus The camcorder will automatically bring the subject into focus even during zooming. To turn off auto focus, press FOCUS AUTO/MANUAL until MF disappears on the viewfinder. Press FOCUS AUTO/MANUAL until MF appears to restore auto focus. Manual Focus Use manual focus (MF) when recording... a subject through glass. a scene where the subject is far from the camcorder and there are objects in the foreground. a subject with distinct horizontal stripes. a subject not centered in the viewfinder. subjects with shiny surfaces. an obliquely angled subject. a bright, flat subject such as a white wall. in low light situations. a scene with fast motions, like a golf swing. Re-focusing may be required when your camcorder is aimed at a new scene. 1. Press FOCUS AUTO/MANUAL so that "MF" (Manual Focus) appears in the viewfinder. 2. Press and hold the "T" side of the power zoom switch until the lens is zoomed in all the way (subject at maximum size). 3. Turn the FAR/NEAR dial until the picture is in focus. It may be necessary to back away from the subject to focus the image properly. 4. Press the "W" side of the power zoom switch to frame the picture as desired. Macro Focus (for close-ups) The camcorder will focus down to 1/2 inch (12.7 mm) in front of the lens if auto focus is set. To use macro focus, press the "W" side of the power zoom switch until the subject is at the widest possible angle. Then, bring the camcorder as close to the subject as necessary. Special Features High-Speed Shutter The camcorder's high-speed shutter lets you record high speed motion (i.e., a tennis stroke) for improved replay while a tape is paused or recorded at SLP speed, or when watching the tape on a VHS VCR (3- or 4-head VCR). Auto Shutter Speed In the AUTO mode, the camcorder will automatically adjust the shutter speed from 1/60 to 1/250 according to the brightness of the subject. The speed does not appear in the viewfinder. AUTO mode is automatically selected when the POWER switch is set to CAMERA. Manual Shutter Speed The High Speed Shutter indicator flashes when the light level is inadequate. More light should be provided to achieve better picture quality and color. SHUTTER while recording until one of the shutter speeds shown at left is displayed. Backlight Use when recording a subject that is darker than the surrounding scene, in a shadowed area or when the light source is in back of your subject. Press BACK LIGHT while recording. When lighting conditions return to normal, press BACK LIGHT again. Copying your Tapes (dubbing) You can connect the camcorder to a VCR and TV, then copy tapes from the camcorder to the VCR. Main Operation Before you begin... Connect the camcorder to a power source. Turn on the TV and the VCR. Set the recording VCR's input signal selector to LINE. Set the camcorder's POWER switch to VCR. 1. Insert a pre-recorded tape into the camcorder and a blank tape (with record tab) into the VCR. 2. Press PLAY on the camcorder. When the tape reaches the point you want to start dubbing, press STILL. 3. Press PLAY and REC together then immediately press STILL on the VCR. 4. Press STILL on the camcorder and PAUSE/STILL on the VCR to begin copying your tape. 5. Press STOP on both units when dubbing is complete. Monitor with your TV Turn the TV ON and select its VCR channel (either CH3 or CH4). Set the VCR/TV selector on the recording VCR to VCR.
