Model 800 (160-0654) Inputs and Outputs Faxback Doc. # 3603 CONTROLLING VCR INPUTS AND OUTPUTS The 3CH/4CH switch works together with TV/VCR and CHANNEL /\ or \/ to control the input and output signals of your VCR. This is important when you use the VCR's tuner to select the program you want to watch or when you play back a tape. Be sure you understand the function of each control and how the controls affect each other. Using OUTPUT SELECT To select the sound you hear during recording or playback, press OUTPUT SELECT, the sound you hear changes from stereo to left audio channel only to right audio channel only and then back to stereo. This button is especially useful when you record the main signal on the left channel and a different SAP signal on the right channel. See "Stereo and SAP Broadcasts.") Both left and right channel indicators light when you set the audio mode for stereo listening. When you select monaural audio, only the selected audio channel indicator lights. The audio levels of the left and right channels also light during recording, playback, and normal TV viewing. If you play a tape that was not recorded in stereo, the Model 800 plays it in monaural audio, regardless of OUTPUT SELECT setting. The chart below shows the VHF and audio output results from these OUTPUT SELECT setting: ┌────────────┬────────────────────┬─────────────────────┐ │ OUTPUT │ │ │ │ SELECT │ VHF Output │ Audio Output │ │ Setting │ │ │ ├────────────┼────────────────────┼─────────────────────┤ │ Stereo │ Left and Right │ Left channel from L │ │ │ channels combined │ output, right from R│ │ │ (mono) │ output │ ├────────────┼────────────────────┼─────────────────────┤ │ Left │ Left channel only │ Left channel from L │ │ │ │ and R outputs │ ├────────────┼────────────────────┼─────────────────────┤ │ Right │ Right channel only │ Right channel from L│ │ │ │ and R outputs │ └────────────┴────────────────────┴─────────────────────┘ NOTE: OUTPUT SELECT has no effect on recording. The VCR records whatever type of audio signal it receives. Stereo and SAP Broadcasts The MTS (multichannel television sound) decoder built into your VCR's tuner automatically shows when the VCR receives stereo and/or SAP (special audio program) signals. The STEREO indicator lights when the VCR receives a stereo signal. The SAP indicator lights when the VCR receives a SAP signal with a mono main signal. The STEREO and SAP indicators light when the VCR receives a SAP signal with a stereo main signal. Setting the SAP On/Off Menu Use the SAP on/off menu to select the audio signal you want to record or listen to when you receive the SAP broadcast (SAP indicator on). 1. Press MENU and select 6 (SAP ON/OFF). 2. Press SELECT to select SAP on or off. The marker on the display indicates the current setting. 3. Press MENU to return to the normal screen. The SAP audio is recorded on the right channel of the audio track. When both STEREO and SAP indicators light, the monaural main signal is recorded on the left channel, SAP on the right channel. Refer to the following chart. ┌──────────────┬───────────────┬──────────────┬────────────┐ │ Type of │ SAP Menu │ Left │ Right │ │ Broadcast │ Setting │ Channel │ Channel │ ├──────────────┼───────────────┼──────────────┼────────────┤ │ Regular │ Either │ Mono │ Mono │ │ │ setting │ │ │ ├──────────────┼───────────────┼──────────────┼────────────┤ │ Stereo │ Either │ Left │ Right │ │ │ setting │ │ │ ├──────────────┼───────────────┼──────────────┼────────────┤ │ │ SAP On │ Main │ SAP │ │ SAP ├───────────────┼──────────────┼────────────┤ │ │ SAP Off │ Main │ Main │ ├──────────────┼───────────────┼──────────────┼────────────┤ │ Stereo + │ SAP Off │ Left │ Right │ │ SAP │ │ │ │ └──────────────┴───────────────┴──────────────┴────────────┘ (ALL-12/13/94)
