Model 800 (160-0654) Special Functions Faxback Doc. # 3605 TAPE MOTION DISPLAY The tape motion display shows you the tape motion mode (fast-forward, reverse, etc) during playback or recording. FREEZE-FRAME Freeze-frame lets you stop the action and view a single frame. Press PAUSE/STILL during playback to freeze the picture. Press PLAY to return to normal playback. During freeze-frame, the picture is a lower quality than during normal playback. Results are best with tapes recorded at the LP speed. NOTE: If you leave the VCR in the freeze-frame mode for 5 minutes, it automatically stops the freeze-frame mode and VCR. RECORD PAUSE Use PAUSE/STILL during recording to edit out unwanted material, such as commercials. Press PAUSE/STILL at the beginning of the unwanted material. The tape temporarily stops. Press PAUSE/STILL again to resume recording. NOTES: Press PAUSE/STILL during automatic timer recording has no effect. If you leave the VCR in the record-pause mode for more than 5 minutes, the VCR automatically resumes recording. PICTURE CONTROL When you play back a tape recorded on another 8mm video device, the picture quality might not be adequate. Use PICTURE as needed to obtain the picture quality (soft or sharp) you desire. NOTE: The control affects playback signals only. It does not affect the quality of TV programs you tune with VCR's tuner. TIME SEARCH 1. NOTES: The time shown on the display is based on the current setting of the tape speed. The VCR checks the remaining time by reel rotation. Therefore, the display shows --:-- when you first insert a tape. After you play it for a few seconds, the display appears. REAL-TIME COUNTER WITH MEMORY Your VCR's counter shows the actual tape run time, not a reference tape count. Use the counter and memory functions to mark and return to specific locations on a tape. To use either function, press CLOCK/REMAIN/COUNTER on the front of the panel or STATUS/SELECT on the remote so COUNTER appears on the display. To use the counter most effectively, always rewind tapes to the beginning before you play them. Press COUNTER RESET to set the counter to 0:00:00. As you record or play a tape, note the run time reading at the locations you want to return to. If you start at the beginning of the tape with a counter reading of 0:00:00, the next time you play the tape, the run time should be the same (plus or minus a few counts) for the same locations on the tape. To use the memory function, reset the counter at a tape location you want to return to; the counter displays 0:00:00. Then continue recording or playback. Before you return to the selected location, press COUNTER MEMORY so M appears on the display. Then press STOP and then REWIND. The VCR stops when the counter returns to about 0:00:00. You can also use CLOCK/REMAIN/COUNTER to display the remaining time (REMAIN on the display). However, the display disappears in about six seconds. FAST-FORWARD/REWIND AND VISUAL SEARCH Use FAST-F and REWIND when the VCR is stopped to move the tape quickly in the desired direction. There is no picture or sound when you use FAST-F or REWIND, but you can use the counter and memory functions to locate specific sections of the tape. To use visual search, begin regular playback of a tape. Then, press FAST- F to search forward, or press REWIND to search in reverse. Press PLAY to return to normal playback. AUTOMATIC REWIND SYSTEM When the tape ends during manual recording, playback, or fast-forward, it automatically rewinds to the beginning (or to the 0:00:00 counter reading if the memory function is activated). AUDIO-ONLY RECORDING Because the Model 800 offers superior quality hi-fi audio recordings, you might want to use your VCR as an audio-only recorder. To do so, connect the audio outputs of the desired audio source (a tape deck, for example) to the VCR's AUDIO LINE IN jacks. You can also make live recordings by connecting a preamplifier or mixer to the VCR's AUDIO LINE IN jacks. However, do not directly connect a microphone to the VCR. NOTES: You must disconnect the VCR's VIDEO LINE IN jack before you make an audio-only recording. Be sure to select the corresponding audio input (L1 or L2). (ALL-12/13/94)
