Portavision TV/Monitor (160-0125) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 3880 You can receive VHF and UHF broadcast signals by using the built-in telescoping antenna or by connecting an external antenna or CATV cable to the TV/monitor's EXT ANT jack. You can also receive video signals by connecting a VCR, camcorder, or any other audio/video source to the TV/monitor. CONNECTING AN ANTENNA OR CABLE TV You can use the built-in telescoping antenna in areas that have a strong TV signal. However, for improved reception, connect a standard outdoor VHF/UHF antenna (not included) to the TV. Your local Radio Shack store has a wide selection of antennas to choose from. NOTE: For better reception in your vehicle, you can connect a mobile TV antenna (such as Cat. No. 15-1614) to the Tv/monitor. If the outdoor antenna wire or CATV cable is 75-ohm coaxial cable, connect the cable to the TV/monitor's EXT ANT jack using an F-to-1/8-inch mini plug adapter, available at your local Radio Shack store. NOTE: If you are using a CATV selector box, set the band selector to VHF LOW and adjust TUNING to Channel 3 or 4 to receive cable broadcasts. Check with your CATV system installer for more information about receiving cable broadcasts. If you use 300-ohm twin-lead wire for the antenna, use the supplied 300/75-ohm adapter to connect the wire to the TV as follows: 1. Connect the wire from the outdoor antenna to the terminals on the adapter's side. 2. Insert the adapter's plug into the TV/monitor's EXT ANT jack. NOTE: The telescoping antenna is automatically disconnected when you connect an external antenna to the TV/monitor. CONNECTING AN AUDIO/VIDEO COMPONENT To receive audio and video signals from a VCR or a camcorder, connect the audio/video component's audio and video outputs to the AUDIO and VIDEO IN jacks using shielded video cables with phono connectors. See the components instruction manual for more information about connecting it to a monitor. NOTE: Using an audio cable for video connections degrades the system's performance. USING THE STAND You can use the built-in stand only when you use AC power or your vehicle's battery power and you have removed the battery compartment. 1. Remove the battery compartment by gently pressing the compartment's two locking latches in the direction of the arrow and lifting it from the TV monitor. 2. Lift the front of the TV/monitor using the handle and swing the stand away from the TV/monitor's bottom. To retract the stand, lift the front of the TV/monitor and swing the stand toward the TV/monitor's bottom until it locks into place. (ALL-01/17/95)
