Model 801 (160-0655) Using Video Cassettes Faxback Doc. # 31367 Selecting a Video Cassette Tape The video cassette tape's quality greatly affects record/playback quality and the VCR's life. Highgrade tape has a better coating that helps prevent dirty video heads and gives the best results. The following chart shows the maximum recording times for different- length tapes at the two recording speeds. Tape Speed Recording/Playback Time Cassette used SP mode LP mode P-30 30 minutes 1 hour P-60 1 hour 2 hours P-120 2 hours 4 hours P-150 2 1/2 hours 5 hours NOTE: Some color shades might differ slightly from the original picture when you play back a tape recorded in the LP mode. Erase Protection All 8mm video cassettes have an erase-protection window to prevent you from accidentally recording over the tape. To prevent recording, close the window (red showing). To permit recording, slide open the window. Storing Your Video Cassettes Unless you are making an automatic timer recording, remove and store the cassette before you turn off the VCR. This helps protect the cassette and the VCR's internal mechanisms from dust. Place your video cassettes in their protective boxes and store them in a cool, dry, dust-free environment. Store the cassettes on end, not on their sides. This prevents the tape from improperly settling inside the cassette. CABLE CHANNEL DESIGNATIONS Your VCR can receive up to 125 cable channels. The VCR displays the channels as 1-125. Channels 2-13 are the same for VHF and cable TV, and cable companies usually number them as they appear on the display. However, cable companies often designate the other channels with a letter or letter-number combinations. The following chart shows common cable channel designations. For more information, contact your cable company. You still might have to experiment to determine the proper cable channel designations for your cable system.
