Model 801 (160-0655) Broadcasts Faxback Doc. # 31381 The VCR's MTS (Multichannel Television Sound) decoder can receive stereo and Special Audio Program (SAP) audio signals through the VCR's tuner. The VCR's indicator(s) lights when a signal(s) is present. The ST (stereo) indicator lights when the VCR receives a stereo signal. The SAP indicator lights when the VCR receives a SAP signal. Selecting MTS You can set the MTS audio sound to STEREO, MONO, or SAP-SET. 1. Press PROG, then 3 to select the MODE SET menu. 2. Press 3 to select MTS. Each time you press 3, the sound you hear changes from STEREO, to MONO, to SAP-SET, and then back to STEREO. When STEREO appears at the right side of the display, you can record or listen to stereo audio whenever it is broadcast. The ST indicator lights in the VCR's display when the station you are tuned to broadcasts stereo. In some fringe viewing areas, the stereo signal may not be strong enough for quality reception. The signal may drift or become "noisy." If that occurs, set MTS to MONO to receive cleaner, clearer sound. You can record or listen to only monaural sound even if the VCR receives stereo broadcasts. When SAP-SET appears at the right side of the display, you can listen to or record the SAP audio. 3. Press PROG twice to return to the normal screen. NOTE: When you record on the VCR with the MTS menu set to MONO or SAP-SET, OUTPUT does not affect the sound even though the on-screen display shows MAIN, SUB, or MIX. BLUE-SCREEN DISPLAY The blue screen appears when you tune to a weak or scrambled broadcast or cable TV station. The blue screen also appears if you set the VCR to the A/V mode when no video signals are connected to the AUDIO/VIDEO IN jacks. NOTES: The blue screen does not appear when the still, video search, or tuner programming mode is active. The blue-screen feature might not function properly if a broadcast signal is too strong. You cannot record the blue screen. VIEWING TV Viewing TV Using the TV's Tuner Turn off the VCR, or press TV/VCR on the remote control until VCR does not appear on the VCR's display. The antenna or cable signals pass through the VCR unaffected, as if the antenna or cable were connected directly to the TV. Use the TV as you normally would. NOTES: If you use a TV monitor, be sure to set it to the TV mode. If the VCR's remote control and the TV are compatible, you can use the remote control to control the TV. Selecting Channels You can select channels two ways: scanning and direct. To scan for a channel, press CHANNEL \/ or /\ on the remote control. The tuner automatically advances to the next programmed channel in the direction of the arrow. Press and hold \/ or /\ to rapidly advance the channels. NOTE: If you press CHANNEL /\ when the tuner is at the highest memorized channel, the tuner returns to the lowest memorized channel. If you press CHANNEL \/ when the tuner is at the lowest memorized channel, the tuner returns to the highest memorized channel. To directly select a channel, press the remote control's number buttons for the desired channel. You must precede one-digit channel numbers with a 0 - 02, 03, 04, and so on. For three-digit channel numbers, press 100, and then enter the second and third digits in the channel number. With direct channel selection, you can choose any channel in the tuner's range, even if you have not programmed the channel, if there is no broadcast present, or if the channel is scrambled. (The tuner does not unscramble the channel.) If you enter a channel number for an inactive channel, you will see a blue screen. (SP/br 3/19/96)
