Model 801 (160-0655) Automatic Timer Recording Faxback Doc. # 31382 Automatic timer recording lets you set the VCR to start and end recording while you are away. Your VCR has eight program timers that let you record on a specific day (NORMAL), the same day every week (WEEKLY), or once a day at the same time on Monday through Friday (DAILY). You can set each program timer to record on a different channel and at a different speed. Automatic timer recording consists of two steps; setting the program timer and making the automatic timer recording. Setting the Program Timers Be sure you correctly set the VCR's clock before you use automatic timer recording. 1. Insert the tape that you want to record on into the cassette compartment. The VCR automatically turns on. 2. Turn on the TV and set it to the same channel as the VCR's CH4/CH3 switch. 3. Press TV/VCR so VCR appears on the display. If you use a TV/monitor, set it to video mode. 4. Press PROG, then 2 to select the PROGRAM SET menu. The first four program settings appear on the TV screen. To view the next four program settings, press PROG again. 5. Press number buttons 1-8 to select the program number. NOTE: When all timers are set and there is not room for another program, clear one of the timers. See "Clearing a Program Timer." 6. Press number buttons 1-3 to select the program mode, NORMAL, DAILY, or WEEKLY. For example, press 1 to set NORMAL recording. 7. Enter the channel number by using the number buttons. Press 3 and 2 to enter channel 32, for example. Press 100 and then two more number buttons to enter a channel over 100. If you want to record from a device connected to the AUDIO/VIDEO IN jacks on the rear panel (such as a satellite receiver or similar device), press INPUT instead of the channel number. LINE appears on the screen. 8. Press 1 or 2 to select the tape speed, SP or LP. For example, press 1 to select SP. 9. Press the number buttons to select the start time. To store other timer programs, press 2, then repeat Steps 6-12. Otherwise, press PROG again to return to the normal screen. Making an Automatic Timer Recording After you set the automatic program timer(s), check to be sure that the cassette tape you want to record on is in the cassette compartment. Then press POWER to turn off the VCR. TIMER appears on the VCR's display. This shows that the VCR is in the timer standby mode. When a timer recording begins, REC appears. NOTE: You can turn on and operate the VCR manually prior to the set times. But the VCR makes the automatic timer recording(s) only if the power is off at the set time(s). Automatic Timer Recording Hints If two timer programs overlap, the one that starts first has priority. When the first program ends, the VCR switches to record the remainder of the second program. During automatic timer recording, all buttons on the VCR are inoperative except POWER, TV/VCR, T.SPEED, DISPLAY, and CLEAR. When you set the timer and turn off the VCR, if a cassette is not loaded or the erase-protection window is closed, both TIMER and indicators flash to indicate that automatic timer recording cannot occur. Press POWER to stop the flashing. Open the erase-protection window or load a cassette. If a power failure occurs or if the VCR is unplugged for more than 20 minutes, the VCR loses the clock setting and all timer settings. NORMAL programs are cleared automatically when recording stops. DAILY and WEEKLY programs remain in the timer until you replace them. Monitoring an Automatic Timer Recording When the VCR automatically turns on to make a timer recording, it does not disturb whatever program you may be watching on the TV at the time. If you want to monitor the recording, tune the TV's tuner to the same channel as the VCR's CH4/CH3 switch. Press TV/VCR so VCR appears on the display. Or, it you use a TV monitor, set it to the video mode. Checking Program Timers Follow these steps to check the program timers. 1.
