Model 28 9-Inch Color TV/VCR (160-0420) Preparation Faxback Doc. # 33161 INITIAL SETTING You can set the Model 28 to display on-screen menus in English or in Spanish. Then you can store TV channels in the tuner's memory. This makes scanning the channels more convenient because the TV scans only the stored channels. NOTE: To store cable channels into memory, connect the Model 28 to the cable system before completing the following steps. See "Connecting to a Cable System" under "Setting Up", on Faxback Doc. # 33159. 1. Press POWER to turn on the Model 28. If this is the first time you have turned on the Model 28, the language display automatically appears on the screen. 2. Select 1 (ENGLISH) or 2 (ESPANOL) with the remote control's number buttons. 3. Press SELECT. The Model 28 automatically distinguishes between standard TV channels and CATV, and stores active channels. Then it tunes to the stored channel with the lowest channel number. To change the On-Screen Language You can change the on-screen display language. 1. Press POWER to turn on the Model 28. 2. Press MENU. The menu appears on the screen. 3. Press 5 on the remote control to select LANGUAGE SELECT. 4. Select 1 (ENGLISH) or 2 (ESPANOL) with the remote control's number button. 5. Press MENU to return to the normal screen. To Reset the Channel Memory Follow these steps to preset the channel memory again. 1. Press POWER to turn on the Model 28. 2. Press MENU. 3. Press 4 on the remote control to select CHANNEL SET UP. 4. Repeatedly press 1 to select the desired band (TV or CATV). (If you directly connect a cable from the cable company, select CATV. If you connect the output of a cable box or you watch VHF/UHF channels directly, select TV.) 5. Press 2 on the remote control to select AUTO PRESET. The Model 28 automatically stores active channels. Then it tunes to the stored channel with the lowest channel number. Repeat Steps 2-5 to store channels in the other band (TV or CATV). NOTE: The tuner memory retains the stored channels even when you turn off the Model 28 or disconnect the power source. Adding or Deleting Channels Follow these steps to check the memory's contents and remove or add channels. 1. Repeat Steps 1-3 under "To Reset the Channel Memory", above. 2. Press 3 on the remote control to select ADD/DELETE CH. 3. Enter the desired channel number with the remote control's number buttons or CHANNEL t or s. 4. Press ADD/DELETE to add the selected channel number in memory or to clear it from memory. If the channel number is red, the channel is not stored in memory. If it is blue, the channel is stored in memory. 5. Repeat Steps 3-4 to add or delete additional channels. 6. Press MENU to save the changes. SETTING THE CLOCK Set the clock accurately for proper automatic timer recording. We suggest that you use a TV or radio station as your source. 1. Press POWER to turn on the Model 28. 2. Press MENU. 3. Press 3 on the remote control to select SETTING CLOCK. The first month digit flashes. 4. Press the remote control's number buttons to set the correct date: month, day, and year. (Press 0, 5, 2, 2, 1, 9, 9, and 5 to set May 22nd, 1995, for example.) NOTE: Precede a single-digit entry with 0. 5. Press the remote control's number buttons to set the correct hour and minute. (Press 0, 5 , 4, and 0 to set 5:40, for example.) 6. Press 1 to select AM or press 2 to select PM. 7. Review the entered information. If the information is correct, press MENU or SELECT. The clock setting mode display changes to the clock display. If the information is not correct, press ADD/DELETE as necessary to erase the information. Then enter the correct information. Press MENU or SELECT to store the information. NOTES: Seconds begin counting at 00 when you press MENU or SELECT after setting the clock. If the display shows an abnormal reading or no reading. Unplug the power cord for about 10 seconds. Then plug it back in and repeat Steps 1-7 to reset the clock. To Change the Clock Setting 1. Repeat Steps 1-3 in "Setting the Clock", above. 2. Select the digit you want to change by pressing SELECT (to go forward) or ADD/DELETE (to go backward). 3. Enter the correct numbers with the remote control's number buttons. 4. Press MENU to exit the clock-setting mode. EARPHONE CONNECTION To view a tape or TV program without disturbing others, plug an earphone (not supplied) into the EARPHONE jack. This mutes the speaker.
