20" Color TV (160-0255) Control Locations Faxback Doc. # 7866 USING THE TV'S FRONT PANEL CONTROLS This section describes the function of each button on the TV's front panel. POWER - Press this button to turn on or off the TV. FUNCTION - Use this button to select the different on-screen function controls. VOL (+/-) - Press VOL + to increase the volume and VOL - to lower it. The number of the on-screen vertical bars at the lower part of the screen indicates the relative volume level. You also use these buttons to adjust the TV's on screen function controls. CH (+/-) - Press CH + to select the next higher channel and CH - to select the next lower channel. Press and hold down either button to quickly scroll through the channels. USING THE REMOTE CONTROL The remote control has the same controls as the TV's front panel, as well as the additional controls described in this section. To operate the remote control, point its front window toward the TV's front panel. Then press the desired button(s) on the remote control. Channel Selection - Press to directly select a channel. The selected (Number) Buttons channel number appears on the screen for three seconds. To select a single-digit broadcast (AIR) channel -- Channel 5, for example -- press 5. You do not have to press 0 before entering a single-digit channel. But, if you do, the TV will switch channels faster. To select a double-digit broadcast channel -- Channel 12, for example, press 1 then 2. To select a three-digit cable channel -- Channel 121, for example -- press 1, 2, and 1. NOTE: You must select CABLE as the input source to select a cable channel. RECALL - Displays the current channel number for 3 seconds. You also use RECALL to clear the on-screen function displays. SLEEP - Set the sleep timer. PICTURE - Selects a picture control (contrast, brightness, color, tint, or sharpness) for adjustment. TV/VIDEO - Selects the TV or VIDEO mode. SOUND - Press this button to select the audio signal (mono, stereo, SAP or surround). CAPTION - Selects the CAPTION or TEXT function. MUTE - Press once to mute the sound. MUTE appears on the screen in red. Press again to restore the sound. REVIEW - Returns to the previously selected channel. APC - Returns to the factory picture settings or the settings you select. SET-UP - Selects the different on-screen function controls. This button is similar to the FUNCTION button on the TV; however it does not perform all of the same operations. SOUND AND PICTURE CONTROLS Press APC on the remote control to display the status of PICTURE RESET. When PICTURE RESET is set to ON, the TV's picture shows the factory settings. If you want to return to the picture controls you previously selected, press APC until PICTURE RESET OFF appears. ADJUSTING THE PICTURE Follow these steps to adjust the picture's contrast, brightness, tint, color intensity and sharpness. 1. Press PICTURE on the remote control or FUNCTION on the front panel until the desired control appears. 2. You can also select surround sound for surround broadcasts, if you connect the TV to your home stereo's speakers. Selecting the Audio Signal 1. Press SOUND on the remote control until the MTS menu appears. 2. Press VOL + or - until the arrow points to the desired audio signal: MONO, STEREO, or SAP. 3. The on-screen display automatically clears in 3 seconds. Or press RECALL to clear it. Selecting Surround Sound Your TV has decoding circuits that give you the feeling of being "surrounded" by sound when the TV receives stereo surround broadcast signals. NOTES: You must connect the TV to your home stereo system and select a stereo audio signal in order to achieve the surround effect (see "Selecting the Audio Signal"). If you connected the TV to your home stereo system and select surround sound, when the TV receives a mono or regular stereo signal, it creates a surround-like effect. The sound is heard from the speakers connected to your home stereo system. 1. Press SOUND on the remote control until the SURROUND menu appears. 2. Press VOL + or - until the arrow points to ON or OFF. 3. The on-screen display automatically clears in 3 seconds. Or press RECALL to clear it. (ALL-10/20/94)
