TV/FM Antenna Static (150-0910B) Installation Faxback Doc. # 7975 Discharge Unit MOUNTING THE DISCHARGE UNIT You can mount the discharge unit on a wall or on an antenna mast (up to a 1 1/2 inches in diameter). MAST MOUNTING 1. Select a convenient location on the mast for the discharge unit. 2. Lift the top section of the mounting strap and wrap it around the mast. 3. Align the holes at the end of each section of the mounting strap, and insert the supplied bolt through both holes. 4. Attach the supplied nut to the bolt and tighten it so that the discharge unit is held securely in place. WALL MOUNTING 1. Select a sturdy, non metallic surface along the proposed path for the antenna wire. 2. Position the mounting strap so that it fits into the notches on the back edge of the discharge unit. 3. Insert the two supplied wood screws through the unit's mounting holes and into the mounting surface. Note: With some mounting surfaces, it is necessary to make pilot holes before inserting the screws. CONNECTING THE ANTENNA WIRE 1. Loosen the unit's wing nut to the tops of the threaded posts. 2. Place the antenna wire underneath the toothed washers and in the unit's wire channel. 3. Tighten the wing nuts so that the toothed washers pierce the wire's insulation. CONNECTING THE GROUND WIRE Caution: City, county, and state grounding regulations vary. Be sure to follow the regulations in your areas. You might able to use a metal, cold-water pipe as your grounding point, or you might have to install a separate grounding rod. Connect the discharge unit's grounding terminal to the grounding point using 8-gauge, or larger wire. Be sure the connection is secure at both ends of the wire, and make the ground wire's path as short and straight as possible. Radio Shack sells a variety of grounding accessories. (LB/all-12/01/94)
